My vax power 8, 2200 watts 300 air watts 4L capacity upright Hoover is brand new, I emptied out the dust/dirt collecter and cleaned the motor filter yesterday for the first time, i switched it on and all...

I had the same problem. It looks like the seal on the lid on the bottom of the cylinder has fallen out when it was emptied. There is no longer a proper vacuum being created so you don't get the cyclone effect and the dirt doesn't collect where its supposed to. it just clogs up the filter. I put sellotape to seal the lid and it works fine.

Dirt gathering on brushes not going into cylinder causing cut out

Hi James,

If debris seems to be collecting on the brushbar, there may be a blockage in the machine. The easiest way to locate and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

It was making a funny noise, then a burning smell, and smoke coming from under the cylinder which collects the dirt, then switched itself off. I have checked for blockages and can't see any

your motor is burned up. stop using the vacuum immediately due to possibility of fire. this is usually caused by the inner seal on the bottom of the cyclone lifts up or gets pinched and doesnt seal with the bottom lid.

Small Filter at bottom of cannister may be clogged. Not letting enough suction draw dirt down.

Dirt not moving through vacuum.

can you disconnect the hose completely ,if so then take it to the sink or outside and blow through it if you can blow then the clogg is further down.there should be a hose the base coming up the bottom backsi21pdenit will be sort of a clear hose.disconect that and take a coat hanger wqith the tip bt so it is rounded, thats so you don't cut a hole in the tub work its way down imto the clear tub\r

Dyson DC05 problem with filters.

First, and for sure, the problem is in the collection unit (CU), not the filter.  Is it possible that something is missing from the CU?  When you remove the CU to empty it, and you lift off the top, a conical yellow part remains attached to the inside of the lid; another yellow part remains in the bottom of the CU, with a big black rubber seal on top.
I think the problem you describe will occur if that black rubber seal is missing, displaced or damaged (perhaps it dropped out with the dirt and you didn't notice).  A healthy seal between those two yellow parts inside the CU is essential.
Please rate my response if this helps.  If it doesn't help, also let me know and I'll think again.

Dirt smell

If this thing has a fast-spinning belt in the "head" of the unit, you are smelling the dust that is being collected in the back of the little drive "chamber" and is being heated up by the motor and the friction of the belt. This is a pretty common thing on vacuum cleaners designed like the Oreck. If it is huge bunnies of dust, well then that means there is a leak somewhere...

The cone filter if put on right should collect the dirt, the tabs shoud be on the edge so when you put the top on, it keeps it in place. Wish I could help more, guess I would have to see it to figure it out. Here is a pic. of the top part, are all filters ok? There is one under the round card-board besides the one at the bottom of the motor. #18 is the filter.
