Question about Delta Machinery ShopMaster SA350K Bench Oscillating Spindle Sander with Spindle Sander Set, 60 SPM, 1/4 HP

1 Answer

On the Bench Oscillating Spindle Sander how do you lock the spindle so that you can remove the bolt at the top to change the sanding sleeve? When I try to loosen the bolt the spindle turns and I don't have a manual to tell me how to lock it while I loosen or tighten the bolt.

I appreciate the comment but the problem was I couldn't get the bolt out of the top of the spindle so that I could remove the rubber cylinder ie sanding sleeve. If I could have, then yes I could have used a wrench on the flat part of the spindle to hold it. I later found that the correct answer was to turn the machine over; remove the rubber gromet on the bottom of the motor and insert an allen wrench into the slot thus revealed. Then with said allen wrench I was able to hold the spindle while removing the bolt at the top.

    Thanks anyway for trying,

    Tom Sr.

Remove the spindle from the machine itself before you change the sanding sleeve. There should be a flat section on the bottom of each spindle that you can hook a wrench on to hold it while you undo the top bolt.

My machine (DELTA BOSS), you can not remove the spindle WITHOUT removing that top nut... you are supposed to hold the sanding drum, and just undo the bolt... but I have th esame problem. the nut will not lossen, and just spins the spndle sander itself.

How do I get the abrasive sleeve off and on?

At the end of the drum ,there will be a screw or nut . Loosen it , and you should be able to winkle the sanding band off. If not , tear it off carefully , then clean the drum with rubbing alcohol and a brush ( not a steel one )

MODEL 11322506 MAINT. TO CHANGE DRUMS

To change drums you have to remember it is reverse thread. If the nut will not because the drum keeps turning you need to either squeeze the drum or hold the shaft near the bottom where the fins are. At least this is my experience with the Porter Cable oscillating spindle sander.

I have a stuck sanding spindle in the arbor of my JOVS-10 spindle sander. I have tries penetrating oil to no avail. Any ideas without tearing down the whole machine?

One last idea is just trying to tighten it more to possibly breach the seizure or you could put some torch heat to it to try and expand the metal. I'd be careful torching as all the super-fine sawdust and oil. Good luck

Changing the sanding pads

You use a 1/2 inch socket wrench to remove the nut at the top of the spindle shaft, slide the old sanding sleeve off and the new one on.  Replace the nut.  You may also have to insert a different size table insert if you are changing the sleeve size.

How to remove round sander for iron shaped one

You need to remove the allen head cap screw in the center of the base, then remove the washer, and pull the base straight down off the sander. If you can't get it to pull off, try gently rocking it a little as you exert pressure to pull it off.

Random orbit sanding base
With this sanding base, you can use the tool as a random orbit sander.
Fitting and removing the sanding base (fig. B)
- Place the sanding base (3) onto the spindle (10).
- Place the washer (7) onto the spindle.
- Insert the Allen screw (8) into the screw hole in the spindle.
- Tighten the Allen screw using the Allen key (9) supplied.
- To remove the sanding base, remove the Allen screw (8) and washer (7).
Fitting sanding sheets (fig. C)
- Hold the tool with the sanding base (3) facing upwards.
- Place the sanding sheet (11) onto the sanding base (3). The holes in the sheet do not need
to line up with the holes in the base.
Large detail sanding base
With this sanding base, you can use the tool as a detail sander or an orbital sander.
Fitting and removing the sanding base (fig. D & E)
For detail sanding, the pointed end should face forward as in fig. D. For sanding large areas,
the pointed end should face to the back as in fig. E.
- Place the sanding base (12) onto the spindle (10). Make sure that the legs of the base
locate into the tool.
- Place the washer (7) onto the spindle.
- Insert the Allen screw (8) into the screw hole in the spindle.
- Tighten the Allen screw using the Allen key (9) supplied.
