Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
When turning on green light beeps turns yellow then red and doesn't come on at all
Did you keep you PS3 in a enclosed environment? This question is only to help eliminate the possibility of the HDD failure. Does the fan run? My guess this may be a hardware failure.
Is your PS3 still under warranty? If not, you may want to try this. Get your hand on a Laptop HDD considering it is the same size as the PS3. Buy an adapter so you can hook up the HDD from the PS3 in your PC. Copy the HDD entirely onto the new drive. (This is only under the assumption the drive is failing but not dead). Reconnect the HDD into your PS3.
If it is the fan, go to your local computer store and buy a replacement. You may want to consider purchasing an external fan that snaps on the PS3. Good luck.

This is called a System Error. It is about the same as the Xjunks ring of death. You need to call Sony if you haven't broken your seal yet.

PS3 has overheated and the thermal compound between the cpu/gpu and heat sync need to be replaced. the gpu and cpu may need to be reflowed as well. Had the same problem and fixed mine. The thermal compound was pretty much gone when i opened up the system. Also dont keep your ps3 on its side leave it flat this will help keep the compound from moving as much.

SOURCE: PS3 Wont Turn On
Hi my name is Juan and I do fix and sell playstations3's so I do know your problem better than any body here the main problem you have is similar to the xbox360 red ring of dead so for now your ps3 is dead no way to turn it on but we have a fix for this problem the only bad part of this is that is done with a special system that is controlled by computer so not every one can do this like the xbox360 ps3 is more complicated in order to get your system up and running we need to have the motherboard or the completed ps3 to reflow the graphics chip some of the connections under the chip are not making good contact and this problem was cause by excessive heat so your ps3 needs to be open and the motherboard needs reflow and new thermal compound to dissipated the heat better there is some guys on ebay they do this type of job there I only sale parts and ps3's on ebay I don't offer this service on ebay but I do have the system to do it so if you like to see your system running again let me know I am located in Georgia.

Your ps3 has overheated. This is the equivilent to the red ring of death for xbox 360. The ps3 problem is called "yellow light of death" this means your ps3 has died due to the console being overheated. The solution to this problem is either getting a new playstation or take it to a shop in the UK and they could help you fix it for a price around £30-£50 GBP.
