How to turn on graphics controler when the monitor is blank

I have a Sony VAIO desktop. I foolishly disabled the graphics controler and now have a blank monitor. I've gone to the set-up mode but there is nothing I can do which seems to hae an effect? How can I turn the graphics controler back on?

Thanks

    Answer concerning graphics controler

Yes, I've tried rebooting in the safe mode.- and all other safe mode options. When rebooting, the Windows XP logo is on for +/- 15 sec. as normal, then the screen goes dark and nothing is visible.

I don't think it matters but its a Samsung Sync Master flat screen model 710N

Yes I have the recovery disc but the computer is my wife's and I didn't realize that she never made a backup. She has a lot of work on it. I can't risk losing the files.

    Thanks,

I gave up and took it to a computer support company. They put in a second graphics card and could re-enable the display adapter using it - and a few other tricks.

Do you have the reinstall disc that came with the Vaio? I am not sure if they supply a Windows XP disc or not. But as a last resort you can always reinstall Windows, but I am sure that you have information that you need to backup so that is not an option.

Have you tried booting in safe mode?

I think that the only options that you have are to 1) reinstall Windows, which doesn't see to help you out. 2) run the Windows XP installtion disk and do and in-place installation of your display drivers, see this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341 or 3) use remote desktop from another machine and re-enable your display adapter. If you are running XP home this will be a little bit more troublesome.

Monitor goes blank every few minutes requires turning it off and back on again . I have reinstalled XP Pro, SP 2.0, all drives found on Sony support site. Missing multimedia controller driver

First off, disconnect the monitor cable from both sides and check for damage. If no damage is apparent, then reconnect the cable. Do this when PC is in off state. Then turn on the PC. If this does not solve the problem, then try the monitor on another PC just to make sure it is not the monitor that is causing the problem. If the monitor is not the problem part, then open the PC case and check the M/B for signs of burning, bursted capacitors, etc. If everything seems O.K., your best bet is to obtain a graphics card for your M/B and try with it if your M/B accepts a separate graphics card.

Sony vaio av mode button is stuck

You may disable the AV Mode feature from the VAIO Control Center Application.
The VAIO Control Center Application will be shipped with all the VAIO Computers which have the Windows Vista or 7 Operating Systems.
You may disable the AV Mode feature from this Application.
You may also disable much more features such as the Touchpad, Special keys(S1 and S2) etc, by using the VAIO Control Center.
Hope this helps.

Check BIOS settings but first change the supervisor password and log in as administrator. In BIOS there is a option like IGP-PCI and vice-versa. Set it to begin with PCI, save and continue.
