Step by step.
1)open partition magic then on the screen,to your left, you will see where it is written "pick a task",just below you will see something like create a partition, click that and this will open up a wizard, click next on that and
2)you will be brought to a page asking you to choose were you want the partition to be.ideally you just click next because the best recomended position would have already been highlighted for you.
3)Now you will be asked to choose the partitions where you want the free space to come from, again this the best will be highlighted for you so click next.
4)now you will be asked what you would like the new space to be,pretty straight forward ther, you enter the size, label and i would advise you to press next but its up to you if you would like any other details.then press next.
5)you will be asked to confirm and after you have made sure all is as you want it,click on finish.
6)you will come to the initial page, now look to your bottom left were you can now click apply. The computer will ask if it can reboot, just say yes and it will restart.
7)This part requires patience becuse pmagic will have to apply the changes on computer startup.just let it finish and you will be taken to your normal windows were vista will say it has found new devices and so on,just bclick ok and you will be fine.
side notes.
1)Vista might also require a reboot to install the partition,it will tell you if so.
2)when partition magic is applying the changes (7) you might get a blank screen, dont panick, just make sure you are well connected to power and wait.

If you want to keep the data on that drive, you will need to use a software program like partition magic or similar... otherwise, you can reformat the drive to whatever size (within the confines of the max cap of the drive) you want.

How do i get rid of the eisa partion on my hard drive, i have an acer T180 with a 160GB HD

Not quite sure if the partion is the primary or secondary. If it is secondary and you are running Vista, go into the Admin Tool in the Control Panel, select Computer Management, select Disk Management under the Storage tab. Select the partion you want to erase from the bottem partion of the screen, right click on the partion, and choose Delete Volume.

If you are deleting the primary, you will need to use the upgrade function to get a clean deletion of the old info.

Good Luck

Thanks for the respone

I have been informed by the VISTAHEAD admin. that vista can not be partitioned by more than 4 parts.
I used the shrink function available in the Vista computer manger , rename the DVD drive label, and labeling the new partitions, then format them as NTFS, then reboot twise for taking the configuration setup and every thing is o.K. without the need for the partition magic.
Now i have only 4 patitions. But didn't know why is this limit?
Beside that i read that the partition magic v8.0 cannt partiton the vista O.S main drive.

The solution to your problem is very simple.
First make two partions of your harddrive, To do so:
-Open up control panel.
-Click open Administrative Tools.
-Click open Computer Managment.
-Then Click on Disk Managment on the right side.
-Choose your main Harddrive, Right click and click Shrink Drive
The amount you Shrink will became your second partions that you can put any OS you want.

After you Have made two partions Install the Vista Os on the second partion(its usually named D:).Soon after the installation is done choose vista from the OS choice menu.
-Log into Vista
-Click on the Drive that has XP installed into and by using the ".exe" files of the software you want to install. Install the software onto vista.
And there you go, now you have:
-Vista N XP on two seperate drives.
-And your vista has the software you wanted.

Hello sir i sri pradeep kumar palai buying a compaq laptop model no V3604TU,having vista home basic genuine . now it has 3 primary partition . and one logical partion. i want to instal both xpsp2 and vista...

Well, it is not Sir. I am one of the hundreds of experts at the site. I agree it looks like there is a big person up there, but you can join free as an expert too.

I would suggest you use a software like Partition Magic or Disk Management in Vista itself to merge your primary partitions (requires a reboot and a lot of time) and then divide into halves.

Now, insert the XP CD and install it on the other partition. It will dual-boot. You can choose what you want as default (see Help & Support for that) and you can select when you want the other when you start. Just go into boot options (see the key for that at the bottom of the screen when the company logo splash screen comes up).
