Question about Sony Computers & Internet
I recently got a sony dvd 510a dvd burner and put it in a hp puter, went to burn a dvd and wont do anything, no burn, nothing, says cannot write lead in, i need to find out where i can get the sonic thats supposed to come with hp, i checked hp site and couldnt find it, also i talked to a friend of mine and he said u need to install the drivers, i found them at the hp site and downloaded them, however im not sure how to install them, its a zip file and extracts the files to .exe i try to install the drivers (device manager) and tried to click on the exe files and all it does it pop up dos for a few seconds, i was told they are dos drivers anyway, so i need to know if the drivers are installed, how can i check? device manager??? when the dos came up did it install the drivers?
Sony states that all drivers for this problem are done on the OS side. The device should be "plug and play" compatible therefore they dont have any drivers for it. They refered me to Microsoft. (not holding my breath)

When you download drivers normally you have a choice of a self install exe or a manual install file.if a self install file isnt avaliable unzip them to a empty new folder then go to the device manager and update from there having it look in the folder you unzipped to.
i would go to sonys site for the driver because they will have the most up to date

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Tips for a great answer:
Click start control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll to cd/dvd rom drives right click properties then properties again then tick enable cd digital cd audio for this cd rom device or scroll to dvd regions select the no _ for your specific area
If this does not fix the problem you might try
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd-rom then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
click start control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you will see options to update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall
make sure that the cd-dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd drive including electrical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps
