Users keep losing their connections to the Small Business
2003 server. Is there a known issue with instability in
this software?

Check to see if you network card has a powersave or hibranate mode. If so it could be that the server is turning off its network connection and thus disconnecting the client computers.

supply more details on
Our machines are 2000/xp.
Server logs show nothing.
Workstation logs will occasionaly show the event id 3019.
Security log shows flurry of log on log off events.
If you look at the sessions connected to the server they
fluctuate with them dropping off then reconnecting.
It is only when there is not many people connected or so it
seems. I experimented with waiting until everyone went
home and then started logging on everyones machines to see
if the problem went away. After logging on to 10 machines
the problem still occured.
Still have no idea. Ready for paid help now.

Here is a me too post.
I have sbs2003, ibm x335 1.5GB ram dual 2.8 xeons, IBM
fastt600 san for data.
I noticed that when there is little load on the server and
there are few people (2-3) connected the problem occurs.
Typically this is after 5:30 of a night and before 7 in the
morning, weekends and public holidays. It is not limited
to a particular time at all only when there are a very few
users.
It manifests itself with computers (2000, XP) having the
"you are no longer connected to the server" error. Outlook
complains that it cannot connect either. Saving files back
t the server is problematic.
As far as the logs are concerned I app and sys logs are not
showing anything. Nothing really stands out in the
security logs either.
Working on the weekends or after normal hours is nearly
impossible.
Is anyone else having the same problem?

Q: Is there a known issue with instability in this software?
A: No.
Sorry for the short answer, but perhaps if you could supply more details on
the problem and the scenario we could help determine the cause. For example,
what OS are on the workstations? what errors are show ing up int the event
log? are these users local or remote?

I am having the same problem at on of my offices that I
support. The Server is SBS 2003, all of the clients are
running Windows XP. All of the clients are running Dell
Optiplex Computers. The Server is a Dell Poweredge 600.
The clients lose connectivity to the server when
working on files that are in the shared folders on the
server. The biggest problem involved Quickbooks as it is
highly sensitive to connectivity and it crashes without
saving the data back to the server. Outlook loses
connectivity as well.
There are 15 CAL's and 10 users.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ted
