Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router
I live with a couple of roommates, and one of my roommates had an existing Linksys WRT54G wireless router (the popular blue and black one with the 2 antennas). However, when I moved in and hooked my PS3 up to it, everytime I turn on my PS3 or exchanges disks it restarts the internet, much to the chagrine of my roommates whose lives are basically lived on the internet. Thinking it was a problem with the PS3 I tried every possible thing I could think of to fix the PS3. It was then that I brought up my problem to a fellow co-worker, and I also explained how I could never download any of the game updates for my PS3. It'd always get to like 18% (it varied) and then stop, then drop the internet connection. He said the problem was possibly a firmware issue with my router, being that it is kind of old.
Agreeing with him I tested this theory and bought the D-Link DIR-628. Hooked it up, got it up and running, hooked my PS3 up with my roommate in the next room and Voila! it turns on, off, exchanges disks, and updates without a single hitch! Much merriment is passed around. However my other roommate comes home and tries to hook-up with her laptop and gets nothing. She tries to connect to the router but is never able to, it just sits there trying to connect. And my other roommate (who plays everquest) experiences constant lag spikes through the router.
The game systems hooked up fine, initially one of my roommates computers hooked up and ran fine (the one who plays EQ), and my laptop and desktop (which was hard-wired) all ran fine.
I'm trying to find a way to get this solved, because my roommates put it to a vote and hooked up the old WRT54G and there's much complaining whenever I turn my PS3 on now again.
- Logon to the configuration page of the router by opening a browser and type in 192.168.0.1
- username "admin" and leave the password "blank"
- Go to Advanced tab and select Advanced Network at your left side
- Look for WAN Port Speed and select 100Mbps and click on Save Settings at the top.
- Good Luck!!!
