If you have the drivers for your Acer on the CD just install the ones you need, if not go to acer.com, customer service, drivers, select your model and download the drivers you need.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Distorted sound

You may want to download the AC97 HD drivers directly from Realtek. The standard AC97 codecs are also available from the same site.

There is the off chance that there may be a hardware failure but I would try reinstalling those codecs first...

PROBLEM WITH AUDIO

Try installing the correct driver for your Realtek audio card.

XP drivers here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/3624_Audio.zip

Vista drivers here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Realtek AC97 Driver 6.0.1.6202.zip

This is assuming, of course, that:
a) your speakers are "on"
b) your volume control is not set to "mute"

Hope this helps - be sure to rate my answer

Check if the system is muted.

Unmute it.Check for all the speaker connections.

Check the power connction to the speakers.

Audio problem by DVD Play

You need to check to see if the dvd drive is set to digital playback because
it is probably trying to find your on board AC97 - 5.1 digital output. With
a music CD it doesn't have to be connected digitially because it uses analog
for stereo playback but most DVD's - if a movie - are set to playback in
digital. Open 'My Computer', right click on your DVD drive, select
properties, select hardware, highlight your DVD drive, click on properties,
then properties again, check- Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM
device.
