I've recently purchased a second hand aquasoothe travel lite scooter for my dad. After a quarter of a mile it came to an abrupt stop and died, on a small incline. We re-charged the battery but while it will go forward with no-one sitting on it, it completely refuses to move with any weight, not even a small child. I put it into a local mobility shop for repair and its cost me 60 pounds to be told that there is something wrong with the motor (I could have guessed that) but when the engineer conatcted Aquasoothe they advised they wont deal with repair companies only customers direct. The engineer found a serial number and sticker on the motor dated May 2012 so felt it was under warranty and advised me to take the issue up but when I contacted Aquasoothe direct they refused any warranty accountability and were more than reluctant to provide any helpful solution. Both companies have told me if it is the motor it would cost hundreds of pounds to repair and don't seem particularly interested in trying to do so anyway. The scooter is in very good condition and seems to have had little use so I can't believe it can't be economically fixed by someone who has the knowledge to do so but I'm afraid to pay out more money just for someone to tell me what I already know.
Hi, i have repaired loads of these scooters and it can be done cheaply as long as it not the motor, now there are two types the older type uses a motor to drive a gearbox attached to the wheel;, the other type is harder to repair is the hub wheel where the motor is located internally to the wheel...
£60 to be advised it the motor is shameful....I would n't charge that much for a fix !!!
Are you in the UK ?
Regards
Rob

It could be a loose battery connector and the controller heats up when it's trying to pull amperage out of the batteries but can't because of the loose connection Try tightening bolts on batteries but disconnect them first. Also it could be the brake on the motor and if the unit isn't shutting off the lights on the tiller blink in patterns to let you know what problems to check for.

I've been a tech for years, and sometimes any assumption that something is "good" can be the one thing that trips you up for awhile. This is a really tough problem, since you've done about all you can to solve it. Here's what I suspect...either the batteries don't have the same current capacity as the old ones, or they could be underengineered, or even defective. I've bought car batteries, on two occasions, that were bad, even though they swore they were good.
You'll have to get someone to test them for their load capacity, that's the only thing I can figure at this point. Not sure who will have this capability- you might call around to some service shops and see if they can help, or know someone who can.
If all the connections are good, and the motor is new, there just leaves the harness itself and the batteries to suspect.
Ensure the batteries are good, and then you will have to check the cables for load capability and integrity.
Good luck, and hope this helps.

SOURCE: problems with my evolution 8 mobility scooter
i have never personally worked on a mobility scooter myself but i do know that my grandfathers had the same problem and his gear sprocket had worn down so when he was on flat ground it was fine but when he would go up inclines and it needed more power it would just spin and barely make it but this was also ten years ago so idk if there even close to anything the same anymore

Its only a thought, but is your speed control knob (black) fully clockwise as even if its less than this it may well not go up even a small incline.
