Question about HTC Touch Pro Smartphone

1 Answer

HTC Touch Pro Program Screen won't allow me to add more programs.

It has plenty of boxes left with the add symbol where i used to be able to add programs, but now it won't let me add any more. If there isn't a way to add any more, is there a way to get rid of all the empty boxes.

I noticed when I purchased the phone that it had space in the programs tab for two pages of program shortcuts (18 - 9 each page). I've installed/uninstalled several apps, forgetting to remove the shortcut before uninstalling, and now there are two extra [+] boxes that I can click to get the program list but resets back to the [+] when I actually pick a program.

Soft Reset

Occasionally, you may need to reset your device. A soft (or normal) reset of your device clears all active program memory and shuts down all active programs. This can be useful when your device is running slower than normal, or a program is not performing properly. A soft reset is also necessary after the installation of some programs. If a soft reset is performed when programs are running, unsaved work will be lost.

To perform a soft reset

Use the stylus to press the RESET button found at the bottom of your device. Your device restarts and displays the Today screen.

I hope that helps.

Registry Tricks for the HTC Wizard (dopod 838)

Congratulations on your purchase of the HTC Wizard.  It truely is an awesome phone.  There are a number of registry tweaks you can do to this phone to increase performance.  Here is a simple guide to help.

First off, your phone is made by a company called HTC.  The actually name of your device is an HTC wizard, so forget about whatever name was given to it by your cell phone provider, and get used to the fact it is an HTC Wizard.  This phone has been sold all over the world under 11 different names.  There is a large community of owners of HTC Wizards online, try googling it to find out information.

Now, on to the hacks

First off.  Go download a program called Total Commander.  This program works much like file explorer does, but it also allows you do access the phone registry.  If you are at all familiar with the windows registry on a computer, then you will feel at home in the windows mobile registry, it's very similar.

Once you've found and installed total commander open it up on the phone.  The registry will be inside of the very top folder nammed " \\ "

Inside \\ you will see registry, then HKLM (local machine), HKCU (current user), and HKCR.

Now just go to the values listed below in the registry and change the values accordingly...

Disable  Menu Animations (saves processing power and system ram)

  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu
  • Assign a value of 0 to AniType

Extra speed (these settings add system cache, you lose a bit of free memory, but the device processes data quicker)

  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\
  • Assign a value of 4096 to CacheSize
  • Assign a value of 1 to EnableCache

  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\
  • Assign a value of 4096 to ReplStoreCacheSize

Enable Wireless G  (802.11g) network access on your Wizard

  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS
  • Assign a value of 1 to dot11SupportedRateMask
  • Assign a value of 8 to dot11SupportedRateMaskG

Once you've added all of these changes close total commander and perform a "soft reset".  You do this by holding the power button until the dialog box appears asking if you are sure you want to shut down.  Select yes and turn off the phone.  Then simply reboot it and your changes are now in effect.

I also recommend a program called Batterystatus.  You can download batterystatus here

    http://www.chi-tai.info/cs_BatteryStatus_XDA_Neo_WM5_iM_cs.htm#Download

This program adds a ton of features to the wizard. The most amazing is the ability to overclock your HTC Wizards processor!

A program called OMAPCLOCK was made that works with our phones that can change the processor speed. Batterystatus can automate this program do auto-overclock your device and it even reapplies the overclock when you wake the phone back up from a screen off position.  It also does a scaling feature that will actively change the processors speed based on what you are doing.  The HTC Wizard runs default at around 200mhz (mine reads 195mhz).  I can overclock mine to 247mhz with no issues at all.  Anything higher and I crash. You can underclock the processor safely to around 100mhz and save a ton of battery life when you aren't using the phone.  Like I said, anything higher than 247 doesn't work on mine, I've heard some of them can run at 270, but please understand the higher you go the more likely the chance to burn out the processor becomes and that can only be solved by getting a new phone.  Play it safe and overclock to 247mhz.  Make sure you check the reapply overclocking at wake option box.

You can view your active wifi network connection directly on the main screen (today screen).  You can view battery percentage left directly on today screen too.

The program also adds the much needed option to actually close a program when you check the X box.  Normally when you hit X it actually just minimizes the program, but this can cause your memory to fill up and eventually slow your phone down very badly.  There are simply too many other features of batterystatus to list, install it and check it out yourself.

How do you uninstall a program from a palm treo 750?

    You need activesync
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/activesync-download.mspx

ActiveSync’s Tools >Add/Remove Programs screen lists all the programs that have been installed on your device. To uninstall a program, uncheck the box next to it and click on OK. To reinstall a program, click on the empty box next to it and click on OK. Do not click on the Remove button. Here's how to do it: If you used ActiveSync to install a third-party program to your Windows Mobile device, you can uninstall the program quickly from your PC.
    1. Make sure your Windows Mobile device is connected to your PC and ActiveSync is running.
    2. From the PC’s ActiveSync Window, click on Tools >Add/Remove Programs. This opens the “Add/Remove Programs” dialog box, which displays a list of third-party programs you have installed on your device.
    3. To uninstall any of the checked programs, click on the box to uncheck it and hit OK—ActiveSync will do the rest.

Reinstalling programs you’ve uninstalled Once you’ve installed a program using ActiveSync, the necessary installation files are saved on your PC. If you uninstall the program as described above, you can use the Add/Remove Programs menu to reinstall it at a later time. Uninstalled programs appear in the Add/Remove Programs list as items with unchecked boxes. To reinstall it, click on the check box next to it and hit OK. ActiveSync will reinstall the program automatically. Note that files in CAB format can be downloaded directly to a device and installed, so they will not appear in the Add/Remove Programs list. In addition, some freeware programs are installed by using ActiveSync’s Explorer to copy the program file to your device. Those also do not appear in the Add/Remove list. WARNING: Do not click on the “Remove” button at the bottom of the Add/Remove Programs screen unless you never again plan on using the program. This completely removes the necessary installation files from your PC and you won’t be able to reinstall the program by checking the box.

Trying to get screen to turn when texting HTC touch diamond

Unfortunately the gyro in the HTC diamond only operates in certain programs like opera mobile internet browser, when viewing pictures in album, and the game teeter. The keyboard would be bigger if it could be rotated using the gyro but HTC did not program it to do this. There are some free program you can download that will allow you to do this but they also rotate everything else every time you tilt the phone.
