Question about Reddy Heater 60,000 BTU Kerosene Forced-Air Heater #R60A

2 Answers

Reddy Heater 60,000 Model R60 only runs with top off.

I have a Reddy Heater 60,000 Model R60 That will only stay running if the top is off, if I put the top on it will run for about 5-10 seconds then shut down. The heater has new fuel filter, photo cell, and air filters. Wanting to know what could be wrong to cause it to shut down when it is all together, and how to fix it. Thanks

The heater just seems to shut down after 5-10 seconds. The heater can run on kerosene or diesel, I'm running it on kerosene. No I havent adjusted the air flow dilator.

Does it seem as though the flame "blows out" or does it just shut down after 10 seconds?

Have you adjusted the air flow dilator on the back end of the heater?

    This model uses diesel correct?

I think you probably has a cracked air line. Remove the air line, plug one end with your thumb and put the whole line under water, blow thru the other end and see if there are any air bubbles, if there are then replace the line.

Sounds lik the vent hole in the filler cap is plugged. Try cleaning it or replace the cap.

My heater would run for ten mins at a time the other day. today it will only run for like two mins every time. Its only been used like ten times.Ive cleaned the nozzle the cover on back of motor. I cant...

Travis, If you have a R60 you can find the fuel filter in the bottom of the pickup tube. Pull the pickup tube out of the fuel tank, then take a small screw driver and pop the small cone shaped fuel screen out. I take either carb and choke cleaner or brake cleaner and spray it out then blow out with compressed air. I'm having trouble with mine also, and I had to turn down fuel pressure (fuel pressure on R60 is suppose to be 3.4psi) but I don't have a fuel pressure gauge that goes that low!! Go to DESA TECH.com they have a lot of good info there. Hope this helps you out!!!

Reddy heater r60

with the top off see if there is an obstruction between the fan and the back of the heater chamber.  also mounted on the backside of the combustion chamber is a hi limit with two wires coming out of it.  this connects to the flame detector which is in the flame path.  it is a copper cappillary with two spade connectors on it.  once a flame is detected, it generates a millivolt signal that opens and maintains the main gas valve. 01e527f.jpg
