I found the coils cloged under the unit. After cooling the hot compressor it only runs this short cycle then shuts off. there is no ice in freezer coils and the lines from coils don't feel cold. Also the inside light dims slightly when the compressor comes on

By not hearing anything but the fans I would have to say the compressor is not running. Pull the cover off so you can access the condenser area where the coil and compressor are located. Check the coil and ad make sure it is clean. Then feel the compressor and find out if the compressor is hot. If it is hot and the coil is dirty/dusty I would say it was going off on high head pressure/temperature. Clean the coil and let the unit sit off for a while and then try running it. If it is cool then it may have an issue with the refrigerant or other things like maybe start componenets.
You can ohm the compressor to see if it is shorted but if the compressor is running it cannot be the overload or relay , if not running sometimes you can pull the relay and shake it if you hear any rattling in it it is bad
It sounds like your compressor is having a hard time starting. Take your model number to an appliance parts store and ask for a compressor start relay. It plugs directly into your compressor and is easily replaced. Remember to unplug the refer first.
The compressor is going bad, check your owners manual for warranty information or look here http://b2b.frigidaire.com/support/manuals.asp if you cant find the manual. Some units have up to 7 years on the sealed system (the compressor, cooling coils, and hot coils).
The compressor CAN run and still be defective. It's like having a car engine with a bad cylinder-it loses compression and therefore loses power. Unfortunately, this is indicitive of Frigidaire refrigerators. If the compressor will try and start, maybe for a few seconds, and then shut off, you may have a defective start relay.
The compressor should be OK this time because you caught it in time. But if the condenser fan stops you need to consider replacing the fan. I have had refrigerators do fine until the fan motor warms up and you are away, it stops. Don't think you should use the refrigerator until the fan is fixed. Sea Breeze
This usually means that your condenser fan has stopped. That's the fan outisde (under or in back of) the fridge. It should be running whenever the compressor runs. Heavy accumulation of dust or anything that obstructs airflow could also cause it. But the most likely culprit is the fan.
If the thermistor sensor for the temperature control is going out that could cause the compressor the think it needs to keep running to cool the unit. The fan near the compressor should run only when the compressor runs. If the fan is running and the compressor isn't then you likely have a compressor start device problem or the overload is tripping from high heat, etc. That would make the compressor run (or try to) every minute or two if not just run continuously. Make sure all the coils under the unit are clean of fuzzy's and hair, etc. by doing a good vac. clean on them also. The compressor can be slightly warm to the touch but shouldn't be so hot that it is hard to keep you r hands on it for long. If it's around 130 degrees F, then it may be the start device problem and is in an overheat condition.
