Question about Cameras

1 Answer

Hi. I have a Canon G9 camera. I bought in October 8, 2007 but did not register the camera's warranty until a few days ago. Here's the problem. I dropped the camera a weeks ago... Everything was working fine, no problems. After I bought an extra battery I tried turning the camera on but would not power up. In fact will only power on if I insert and remove the battery several times. Once I get it going, however, it powers off with the lens extended. Please tell me what my options are, short of buying a new camera. Thank you for your time. Cacy Forgenie

    Hi, Rob

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not offended at all. The second battery is, indeed, a NB-2 Lh battery. The only difference I can see between the two is this: the Canon branded battery says "7.4 720mAh (Li-ion)while the one I bought from J&R (power 2000) says 7.4 900mAh (Li-ion). Should this matter?

I've followed the advice from a fixya expert, charging both batteries over night, but I am still having the same issues...

Hi Cacy,
I don't want to offend you, please don't take it that way, but since your problems began with the addition of the new battery... I have to ask the question. Are you absolutely sure you bought the right battery for your camera?
It takes a NB-2LH battery pack. If your sure you purchased the correct battery for the camera, and since you dropped it, I would check to make sure it seats properly in the camara and that it locks properly. Also the cover should close with a CLICK sound. If it doesn't then perhaps the battery is not locking in properly. Double check it and let me know if you still have problems.

To answer your question, it doesn't matter between 900mAh and 700mAh. MAh is a short cut term for Milliampere Hour. It is technical term used to describe how long a battery will last under a certain load (in this case...your camera).

Generally speaking, the higher the milliamp hour, the longer the battery will last, ie. your 900 mAh should last longer in your camera than the 700 (but not much longer ).

You do have the correct battery for your camera. It's supposed to use 7.4 volts.

Does this problem happen with the old battery?

I want to claim my free 3yrs. warranty canon, choices of esprit watch timepiece or pixma iP2770 printer. i buy canon IXUS 105 P12,950 October 04, 10. Monday.

Good luck with this, but FixYa does not supply products nor register warranties; your message is directed to completely the wrong organisation.

I respectfully suggest that you contact the Canon website in your own country to register your warranty and claim any promotional gifts as we cannot assist you in this matter.

My Canon G9 won't turn on as well!! HELP PLEASE!!

Sounds like you have the short in the camera that a lot of people get on this model. A terrific place for help with this problem is: It runs $89 all in with the servicing for the camera included. They just work on the Powershots exclusively. They're very familiar with this no power problem on the G9. An excellent place if you need service for a Powershot.

Canon power shot g9 lens

Your best bet would be to have it serviced by a professional to get you going again, those are really excellent cameras. If you'd like to have it repaired, you can have the G9's repaired here: This place just does the Canons exclusively, they don't work on any other models. The best part, the work through them is superb and they are not expensive at all. It runs $89 for parts / labor on the repair and the servicing for the camera included. Plus they cover shipping back which we like. The best part is the work through them just excellent on the Canons, they'd be the place if you want to have it fixed. Hope that helps you with it, all the best. That's a great little camera.

Canon g9 just wont work

No problem. Just contact Canon Support US via email to discuss your camera's issue and its warranty (amazing that Canon Ireland didn't suggest this). You may have to pay shipping charges, but hopefully that shouldn't be too excessive. Here's the email address:

Canon G9 camera and G7 similar problem... checked out memory cards and they were reformatted. cards work fine in other digital carmeras I own. Can not get either camera to read a memory card

Usually this means there is a problem with the memory card part in the camera that reads the card. When this happens it will usually say either memory card error or card locked, even when the card is fine. Try emailing this site for help with this: All they help with are the Canon Powershot cameras and they're excellent for help with these models. Good luck with it. They'd be the place that could help with this.

My canon g9 will not turn on...

Try recharging the battery fully over night and putting it back in the camera and pushing the on button. This worked for me. The battery that was in the camera when it stopped working had only taken a few pictures so it should have had a good charge. My back up battery had been recharged for a few days and left in the camera bag so it must have lost a bit of the charge as it would not power the camera up after it had failed. Give this a try and report back if you find a different solution. I am afraid this will happen again so I am still seeking answers.
