Question about Nikon D80 Digital Camera with 18-200mm Lens

1 Answer

The AF assist light does not light on my D80, despite having it selected in the custom settings menu (04) and trying to shoot in low light. The AF light does not come on and the lens cannot focus. Please help, Thank you...

I solved the problem. The lens, not the camera, was set to manual focus. Apparently the camera "knew" this and disabled the AF light. Set lens to AF, and it works fine.

Which mode are you shooting in?
Some modes will disregard your af assist option.
Try a different mode see if it works.

If not MSG back.

Please rate.

My nikon d80 is taking green pictures, what is wrong with it and how do i fix it?

Hi,

You may try resetting your camera to default settings. It's white balance might have been tweaked for custom settings. Find the two buttons with green dots next to them on the top right of D80. They are the +/-* and AF* buttons. Hold them both down for a few seconds. The top LCD blinks and everything is back to factory settings. If problem persists, you may contact Nikon for further troubleshooting and repair.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply for further assistance. Good Luck!

Hi Sandy, Page 43 of the D80 manual explains about Auto ISO. It works in the Vari-Program modes. In one of those modes turn on your menu go to Shooting Menu, move down to ISO sensitivity, this is where you can set Auto ISO to on or to a select ISO.

My D80 will not auto focus with any of my 3 Nikkor lenses. It will fire on auto focus when you manually focus while in that auto focus mode.

Press the AF button on the top of the camera (to the right of the window) to select an AF mode & make sure the M/A (Manual / Auto focus) switch on the lens set to "A"

Low light no focus

The Nikon D100 custom settings option 22 - AF Assist, controls the AF Assist light.
Check if this has been turned off.

This option controls whether the auto-focus assist light comes on in low light to help autofocus
latch onto the subject.

Re: poor focus problem

usandy,
You can set the focal point by toggling the menu switch (you can see it moving around into different locations as it "wraps" around the viewfinder, now depending on your f-stop the area that is not in focus will be soft, you can also experiment with the autofocus lock on you subject and evn try amnually focusing on your subjects.

Manual focus points 40D

Try checking C.Fn III, 3: AF point selection method. Yours might still be on option 2.

0: Normal - Works by pressing the AF Point button and then the Multi-controller.

1: Multi-controller direct - Press the multi-controller to directly select an AF point (without first having to press the AF Point button). Pressing the AF button reinstates all AF points for auto AF point selection.

2: Quick Control Dial direct - turn the Quick Control Dial to select AF points. In this mode, AF points will not be displayed on the LCD panel.

Manual white balance

Click the AF-WB button and then with the wheel in the back of the camera select either K or any of the other settings. If set to K then you must go to your Menu (click menu button on back) then go to Color temp. and select your Kelvin tempature. Hope that helps....
