Question about Amana ABB1927DE Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

2 Answers

My Amana refrigerator freezer is totally off.

I had an overload on a circuit and went to the main panel and reset it.  All appliances are working but my Amana.  There is no motor running and the lights in the top and freezer will not go on.

The light in the bottom freezer compartment came on but not the light in the upper refrigerator section.  The motor does not come and I hear only a very faint groaning noise.

Okay...this will take some time and muscle.  What does a reset button look like?

Replace your circuit breaker that triped, it might not be giveing you the right voltage. Or check the voltage at outlet pluging to be sure.

You may have lost your fridge. Try This.

  1. Unplug.
  2. Take a table lamp & plug into socket where you had fridge plugged in. Turn light on. If it lights. Fridge is trouble.
  3. If no light check another socket make sure light works if it works your socket, wiring or breaker is your problem.

  1. If fridge check wire to & from fridge make sure it is unplugged feel & look for crimp or gap in wire.
  2. Check connection to fridge some have a reset button or overload fuse. Reset or replace if you find one.

  1. If socket try another socket see if fridge runs.
  2. If it runs you will have to troubleshoot house wiring.

Ouch sounds like your motor is out & maybe why your breaker tripped.

Still follow steps above if you plug a light in & it is dimmer than it should be . May still be house wiring. ( may have dropped a leg (line)).

  • Mark Van Skiver Mar 09, 2009

Usually a little red or black button this style you push in. Sometimes they are breakers like in house breaker box just much smaller & you flip these.

One other possible failure may not actually me motor but motor starter(capacitor) that kicks the motor to get it to run.
**Very dangerous they store energy(voltage amps) & can harm or kill you even when unplugged. **

After cleaning frige and plugging it back up it blows air but not getting cold I can here what I think is the thermastat clicking on and off

You are most likely hearing the compressor overload device tripping and resetting as the compressor is probably not starting. remove the rear lower panel of the unit and verify your possible buzz/click is coming from the compressor. If this is the case you can replace the starting and overload device to see if this fixes the issue, if not your compressor may be in need of replacement. Pleazer Appliance...

Our amana refrigerator is making a noise, a hum and then a "click". The freezer is no longer working and the fridge part is no longer cold. It's a 2004 and we don't know whether to get...

It sounds like you are hearing the overload on the compressor closing. When the overload closes the relay tries to start the compressor (that might be the buzzing sound) and if the compressor doesn't start the overload opens and turns the compressor off. You will need to replace the relay on the compressor.

Amana SRD520T - appliance tripped the circuit breaker. After power had been restored the compressor ran but no cooling in freezer or fridge

With the compressor running, open the freezer and listen if the fan is running. If it is not, replace it. Most likely, this is your problem.

If it is running, turn off the refrigerator. Remove the rear panel from the freezer. Inspect the coils. If they are covered in ice, let them thaw completely. This ice will prevent the freezer and consequently, the refrigerator from getting cold.

If the fan works and the freezer coils are not cold, then I am afraid it is time for another refrigerator.

Humming noise from refrigerator 9top).

This is likely due to a bad freezer fan motor. The main back panel in the freezer can usually be removed to check it out.

My refridge and freezer would stop working

there is a saftey overload switch on the compressor when the compressor is over heating it cuts out. when the fridge is turned off it resets the switch. So now the compressor has burned out totally. you more and likely need a new compressor

Amana bottom freezer refrigerator-

No appliance manufacturer recommends the use of aftermarket surge protectors. They pull high amperage at start and exceeds most protectors. You can have a whole house surge protector installed in your main panel by a licensed electrician. They are the only method that works when serious surges happen.
