Question about Maytag MFD2561HE Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

1 Answer

Freezer door was accidently left open for about three hours -- now the top compartment and the freezer are warm -- everything has defrosted -- and nothing will re-freeze -- ice can not be made -- strange humming noise. Is the compressor shot -- how can we address?

Switch off the unit at the wall and leave it for a day to cool off. I think your compressor has overheated and has cut out on thermal overload. There should not be any problem with leaving the door open. The problem with the compressor is likely caused by poor power supply or a power surge.

Fridge is warm freezer is cold

Hello Abo Karin,

You are likely experiencing a DEFROST failure
(most commonly a defrost PCB failure)...
part number 67006740 item 5 on your exploded
case view (top center as viewed from the front).

There are typically only three (3) elements to a DEFROST
power control circuit:
- Defrost Printed Circuit Board ( PCB as noted above)

- Heater element to WARM the EVAPORATOR

- DEFROST thermostat... inhibit excess heat
(closed circuit at freezing - Opens at room temperature)

Check your defrost pan...
there should be water there DAILY...

IF not: you are assured that your DEFROST fails.

Per your DESCRIPTION...
You need to look for a SUDDEN REASON (huge air leak)
why FROST would form so quickly...
USUALLY a big pizza box... BUT ANYTHING blocking a
TIGHT DOOR SEAL will cause massive frosting.

It is taking moisture from the WARM ROOM AIR and blocking your evaporator...

a PROPERLY functioning defrost circuit would remove that frost
at least DAILY... and the EVAPORATOR fan would properly chill the refrigerated side blowing cold air from the FREEZER.

Yes ... all INTERIOR panels must be in place for the refrigerator to function properly.

Hope this helps

Freezer is frosting and refrigerator is warm.

As far as your freezer frosting up, sounds like a door seal problem, run your fingers along the seam of the door seal, there should be no splits/holes in the seal.
As far as the refrigerator either there is a secondary fan motor, or there is a obstruction blocking the air movement, if the freezer has a bad seal, its suspect ice is still building up.

I have a three year old Amana ABB2527DEB. The Freezer seemed to be overworking and the fridge was 68 degrees. Took everything out of unit and unplugged it for more than 24 hours. Cleaned it inside,...

This could be a double problem.
Yes the auto defrost cycle seems to have failed allowing an ice build up.
Secondly the door seal is leaking allowing warm moist air to sneak in. You probably need a door gasket too.

If your fridge is left open over night and it wasnt closed till morning and the alarm light does stop flashing when it is closed what does that mean?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

FYI... The door alarm will sound anytime the door is left open for more than 4 minutes.

Per your post... What it means your refrigerator is working normally.

However... there is the possibility of having excess ice build up on the evaporator coils from the door being open all night. If the freezer section starts warming up due to poor airflow you may have to do a manual defrost. You would first notice the lack of ice production or soft ice cream if there were air flow problems due to excess ice on the evaporator coils.

To do a manual defrost all you do is:
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove freezer contents
3. Use a fan directed at the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours (makes a water mess)
4. Reload the freezer
5. Plug in the refrigerator

Everything should be back to normal in just over 4 hours except ice production that can take up to 8 hours.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Ice has formed in the freezer of my electrolux frostfree refrigerator & the lower compartments are not cooling. what do I do now?

Could be door has been accidently left open and now ice is blocking the air flow, try switching it off for at least 12 hours with door open to manually defrost ice. Also check that the fan inside the freezer is running.

I accidently left the freezer compartment partially open over night. Everything melted. Now that the door is properly shut it seems like it is not getting cold. How long would it take for the freezer to...

If the freezer empty it might take an hour. If there is product in the freezer it will take longer depending on how much is in there. If it does not cool down. Your evaporator coil may be iced up from trying to cool the freezer all night. To fix this problem just unplug the box and remove all the items from the freezer and leave the door open for a few hours to defrost the the coil. After this everything should be fine. I hope this helps you. Please leave feedback. Thank you.

My samsung is cold at the bottom of the fridge and warm at the top

Im assuming you mean the freezer is cold but the fridge is not . Most of the time these auto defrost fridges require a internal evaporator fan to draw the frost from the freezer to the fridge compartment. If the fan is stuck, it will not be able to transfer this frost. Before any major strip down, suggest you defrost fridge unit for approx 12 hours and start again. 90% of the time this will correct the problem. Almost certainly door was left open accidently for a period which resulted in this. Please let me know if not the answere.

We left the freezer door open accidently for 10 days. returned to find bottom items still frozen, but top part of freezer, everything was warm. Model MQU2057BEW

Hi, Check the rear panel inside the freezer and see if it has frost building up on it. If so, shut the refrigerator off for 24 hours or remove the rear panel and defrost it with a hair dryer.
It should be ok after that ubless the evaporator fan motor has gone bad.
Please let me know if this helps or if I can assist you further.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.
