try reshaping the tip to a dull point with a file or grinder. Then heat it up and apply solder onto the bare copper tip coating it completely. you can clean the excess off with a wet sponge. This is called "Tinning" tthe tip.

Was it copper that bubbled up or just some kind of covering? If the latter, just scrape off the residue, then tin the tip as normal. If it was the first, it would have been a flaw in the copper--just replace the tip with a new one. It's hardly worth trying to get warranty on it. Hope this helps!
