Never had this happen. I do not use wireless controllers. Is this a simple solution as too getting a wireless controller?

A ps3 controller must first be connected via USB so the console can sync with the controller via Bluetooth. Make sure the controller is made for the ps3, not all USB controllers will work.

I updated my PS3 because it told me it would not run without and update and now it doesn't recognize the controller... CECHP01 used the latest update 3.66 (it asked for 2.76 or later.)

PS3's will sometimes loose their connection to the controllers. I have always fixed this problem with these steps:

1. Make sure the system is off (red light)
2. plug the control in with the usb cable
3. press the PS button in the middle of the controller (this will let the console relearn the controller)
4. once the lights on the front of the controller are not blinking red anymore, and have a single green light indicating which player the controller has taken, hold the PS button and turn off the system
5. once the system is off, unplug the usb cable
6. the controller should work without the cable now. (check by pressing the PS button to turn the system back on

Controllers will lose their connection to the PS3 when they die completely, during updates, power outages, etc. I don't know what exactly causes it, but I have had to do this process several times since I got my PS3.

Thanks,
John Vickers

My controllers wont sync to the ps3 or charge on it but they charge when i plug them into the PC. i had the "Maximum power reached" message thing plop up then my ps3 crashed and now they dont...

yea i have noticed my ps3 isn't charging stuff either it only does charge when its turned on im pretty sure theres a setting to charge while the ps3 is off To sync:
  • Connect the USB cable (provided with the controller) into the data USB port on the top of the controller. Insert the other end of the controller into one of the two USB ports on the front of the system.

  • Power on the television and the Sony PlayStation 3. You are going to see a series of lights flicker on the top of the wireless controller.
  • Press the PS3 button in the middle of the controller. This tells the gaming system it is connected. A single light appears on the controller.
  • Remove the gaming controller from the PS3. You can now use it wireless. It is also possible to remove the USB cable from the PlayStation if it is blocking your field of view.

After restore factory default settings controllers won't connect

The back of the controller has a little hole next to the screw in the middle. With your system on, use a pin and press the button in while you are plugged to the PS3 via usb. Press the PS3 button and boom, you have just reset you controller to factory sync with your unit.

Controllers won't charge up with the wire when connected to ps3 could it be that we need a new wire or is it a bigger problem.

    Probably a bigger problem.

You should test the wire / controllers on a friends system.

    NO wait!

Don't do that. If you do then you'll lose the connection / link between your controllers and the ps3.

Test your FRIEND'S controllers / cables on your PS3.

If they don't work then it's a problem on the motherboard that isn't easy to fix.

You'll have to charge the controllers another way. Or else pay Sony 150+ to fix the problem.

Ps3 controller will not steer Motorstorm Pacific Rift anymore

Give this hard reset a shot.

Flip the controller over, and press the reset button. It's to the right of the middle-top screw ps3_controller_reset.jpg. You'll need something like a paperclip, toothpick, or something similar to push the button. Once you've reset your controller, connect it to your PS3 with a handy USB cable, and press the PS button (just like you did when you first got the controller). Now, it is paired again, and you should be OK.

Let me know if it works.

    Best of luck!

My PS3 keeps losing its signal between console and controller (it normally takes about 30mins) but either way it loses the signal and the only way to sort it out is to turn the PS3 off at the socket and...

I've had the same problem before, i believe what you have to do is.. recalibrate the controller, that helped, but i don't know if it'll work for you, now i don't have a bluetooth, so i couldn't help you with that.. also, it would help for you to turn off the controller during the movie.. or not interacting with the system as far as playing games..

    Ps3 controllers.

did you press the ps button???
if yes, just try to reset .

Hard Reset procedure for the PS3 (as instructed by Sony CS).

Be sure to backup your settings/games saves by doing a System > Backup on your PS3 or you may lose your game saves! Also, this is a last resort procedure prior to exchanging/returning to sony.

    1. Power Off the PS3 via the power switch in back and power back on w/switch.

    2. Hold Power Button on the Front until you hear 3 beeps.

    3. Then go through the initial setup and then run a full Format via System > Format. (will take approx 3 1/1 hours). You may need to have our AV cables ready if your using HDMI (in case HDMI isn't detected after initial reset).

    4. Restore your backup you made prior to doing factory/hard reset (optional, if you created a backup).
