Assuming you really want to have a working surround system you will need a separate stereo amplifier for the 901's to accomodate the need for the Active EQ. There is no way to separate your receiver's front L&R channel preamplifiers from their amplifiers.

I run a Carver AV-406 (5-channel amp) for my 901's in Front, 2 Subwoofers and the Rear Surround channel, with the Active EQ between the receiver and the 901's amp channels. My receiver controls everything and just drives the Center and Surrounds. You would probably just get a nice 2-channel amplier for the 901's.

Modest amps would work but at very loud volumes may go into clipping, which is bad for any speaker. I'm using only 110W for mine and it ahs plenty of steam for the 901's.

For connectiuon I would run a pair of RCA cables from the Front L&R Audio Line OUT to the Active EQ's Line IN; then the EQ';s Line OUT to a separate amp's Line IN. Attach the 901's to the new amp, run through the receiver's setup procedures for volume, etc and you're done.

Not what you might want to hear but 901's have special requirements. I've had mine for 25 years and have no regrets.

SOURCE: How do I connect my bose 901 active equalizer to a onkyo tx-sr506

AV receivers are notoriously incompatable for Bose 901s. The problem is the EQ charges the entire system and could damage the surround processor. Some higher end AV receivers, including some of the newer Onkyo models have pre out power in inputs on main or all seven channels.which you could install your EQ directly between pre amp & power amp without damaging processor. You can also add a two-channel amplifier to the pre out jacks front channels and use your recever's remote to control volume.

No. Active Equalization is required for the 901's and not to be used with any non-901 speakers.

My receiver controls everything and just drives the Center and Surrounds. You would probably just get a nice 2-channel amplier for the 901's. However, the TX-SR606 doesn't provide power for a Subwoofer, should you decide to get one, so you would need another amplifier channel for that, too. Therefore, you might look around for a powerful 3- or 4-channel amplifier so you could drive the Sub, too.

Modest amps would work but at very loud volumes may go into clipping, which is bad for any speaker. I'm using only 100W for mine and it has plenty of steam for the 901's.

A seperate subwoofer channel on the amp could be used. Just run a single RCA channel from Sub OUT to one available channel IN on the amp and attach the subwoofer to it. Two would work, also. That's what I do. You could use a 1-2 RCA splitter to feed two avaailable channels on a 4-channel amp. The iterations are many. Have fun.

You want them to be your Main Front speakers, right? The news is not good.

There will be some limitations because you can't extract 'processed' L-R from this receiver. The following will give you good stereo and Front L-R from the 901's but it won't allow central volume control or send them any of the DSP effects you may select. Sorry. If it had a Front L-R Pre-Out you'd be good to go for all functions and listening modes.

You'll need a separate stereo amplifier WITH ITS OWN VOLUME CONTROL for the 901's to accommodate the need for the Active EQ. Modest amps would work but at very loud volumes may go into clipping, which is bad for any speaker. I'm using only 100W for mine and it has plenty of steam for the 901's.

With this receiver we have to cheat to get the Front L-R signal out to the 901's (but it's unprocessed and at a steady volume level)...

For connection I would run a pair of RCA cables from the VCR/DVR Audio Out L-R OUT jacks (*) to the Active EQ's Line IN; then the EQ's Line OUT to a separate amp's Line IN. Attach the 901's to the new amp.

* You'll lose the ability to use these jacks for anything else, but few of us use them anyway. DO NOT select this function for monitoring or you lose all audio in the Onkyo.

The impedance of your system is important and connecting the wrong way or wrong impedance can do server damage, also wiring the wrong way round oddly will cancel certain sounds with each other, always check wattage impedance and polarity, good look

Hi,,My onkyo tx-sv828thx problem was it shows "protect" sometimes.then after 2 to 3 second its back to normal operation. What do you think the problem?can i do it by myself? anyway,i am using...

The protect message appears when the current powering an amplifier inside the receiver goes beyond the safety limit or the amplifiers overheat. So just check the wiring and the speakers impedance with an ohmmeter - each should be above 6 ohms
If they are lower then you have a short in one of the actual drivers of the Bose 901 speaker . If the impedance is OK then the Onkyo overheats, place it in a better position to increase the airflow thru it.

Tx-sr575 7.1 - is there any use in connecting and old power amp and equalizer to this receiver? If so, how?

Ya mean like to hook up Bose 901's? Nevermind.

Utility is in the imagination of the dreamer.

Any analog processor can occupy the Tape Out/In loop. However, it will only affect stereo analog sources and, once engaged to monitor, it will disable any digital audio source.

An external amp COULD be slaved off the tape Out (or the anticipated EQ Out, but it won't be volume-controlled by the Onkyo. You would need an AVR with at least Front L/R pre-outs.

I just enherited a pair of bose 901 speakers

My suggestion is do not hook the 901's directly to the Onkyo. It is compatable, but they WANT more than what the receiver can give them. I suggest going and getting a dedicated amplifier for them. Trust me, you'll be a lot happier going that route.

Bose 901 hookup with Onkyo SR 805 and Onkyo M282 amp and 901 EQ/

The good news. I have a setup similar to what I think you're trying to do and it works great!

The Onkyo M-282 stereo amp for the 901's is the perfect solution. Run it with the Active EQ between the receiver Front L&R Pre-Outputs ** and the 901's amp channels.

**Onkyo SR805 Pre-Out Front >>> Bose EQ Amplifer IN
Bose EQ Amplier OUT >>> Onkyo M-282 IN

Set the Input Level on the back of the Onkyo to MAX. The receiver controls everything just fine after you run through your level setup routine again.

I was looking a the 12v triggers on both units and it looks like you only have a Zone 2 trigger so that wouldn't work for turning on your M-282. I guess you're going to have to turn it on and off the old fashioned way, like I do mine.
