This is likely to be th output relay having corroded contacts. The headphone output is taken directly from the sepaker output but fed through resistors. The output relay has failed.

The relay is a somewhat sealed unit and an examination will not reveal anything. To confirm the relay as the likely problem, when the unit cuts out, try turning up the volume a little. If that restores the sound, it is likely that the relay is the problem. Also, a bad relay will likely be a problem more if the volume level is lower.

I have a pioneer VSX 920 receiver that thinks i have headphones pluged in. I have no sound from the speakers and when trying to go in speaker related settings it displays: PHONESIN on the receiver. If I...

I think I just fixed a unit with the same problem. I opened the cover and found where the wire from the headphone jack plugs into a board just beside the power supply transformer. When removed, the unit appeared to select speakers as the output. Since the headphones are never used by the owner, I simply left the headphone cable unplugged. Unfortunately, I didn't have speakers to test it with but the unit appeared to be working correctly.

Pioneer sx-255r can i connect 6 - 8 ohms

Yes, you can use them but be careful. These are not necessarily robust speakers. If they sound strained, back off.

Pioneer SX-2300 powers up, but no sound.

Does the output relay click about 5 sec. after powering on? If it does check if the tape2/tape monitor is on. Check speakers and wiring. Try headphones.

There aren't any fuses for the output.

If no relay then it probably needs output transistors and a few resistors.

No sound

I just fixed mine. Plug in your head phone. wait couple of seconds. you will hear clicking noise which seems to reset the receiver. 10seconds later, sounds should come on and if not unplug the head phone and you should hear it then.

a little bit foolish thing: see if you have both the speaker channels (A and B) down. if you have both down it doesn't work - didn't for me.. and obviously make sure you have the right letter down - same outpout as your boxes
