Question about Televison & Video

5 Answers

Our Television works great. For the last couple of weeks our set will randomly shut off. It seems to come back on after it cools down if we fiddle with the power or tv/video buttons. We are thinking that the fix is probably something simple and if we can isolate the component and replace it, we would rather do that than invest in a bran new television. This unit was manufactured in Mexico in April of 2002 and we have only owned it for five years. One thing you should know. It was a floor display model and we got a great deal on it from a friend who worked at the Technique store just before they went out of business.

Hi, I am Mtoddvan.

Your set goes off after use by itself. I take it it is a (CRT) a large TV not a flat screen?

**Warning even unplugged TV sets have high voltage Capacitors that store power & can hurt or kill you if you even get close to them.**

  1. As silly as this sounds replace batteries in remote. Some turn TV off when they start going dead.
  2. Unplug TV
  3. Most times you will find a solder track on the board that has discolored due to heat I would check here 1st for lose connections or burnt looking components.
  4. Look where the electrical wire comes into to around board may be losing voltage regulator use your nose you can smell a burnt component easily.
  5. Look for cracked components as well.
  6. Check that power button is making good contact in solder board wiggle gently see if it is lose may be losing contact.
  7. These sets are not easy to work on wiring is usually very short & tight Stay away from tube & connections to tube very dangerous.
Please rate & if I can help more let me know I am Standing by. Good Luck! Be careful.

Hi there, this seems to be a cooling fan Assembly malfunction. the power board sends the electrical current to this device. the connection may be broken or the cooling fan may be dead. i would check the power board first. this may be the central issue then, i would inspect the cooling Assembly for faults. sounds like the power board itself is not receiving any air flow causing it to over heat and shut off.

Hi, with projection tvs, they generally collect a lot of dust inside and you should take the time to clean this out every once in a while as it is obstructing air flow and is probably your problem as everything works fine. You just need to remove the back cover and remove the dust. If this doesn't work, let me know what brand and model of tv you have and I can suggest other areas for problems but I'm 99% sure dust is your problem.

Hi....the reason is that some capacitor circuits would have got damaged. if you consult any electircian he would try to remove those lines by means of grabbing a magnet over that shaded area. so that ur problem might get solved.
thank u!!

RCA L46WD22 won't turn on after being off overnight

RCA are beautiful televisons, what is happening is that when the faulty fan that cools down the processor stops working, your processor over heats and a temperature gage inside reconizes this and shuts down the television. unlike some other models that i choose to remain nameless
*cough sony cough cough* where you need to replace the t.v,

RCA has a safty feature that allows the t.v to shut down with out it doing any harm. Ok folks, this is the easyest answer that i am going to ever give anyone.

All you need to do is Replace the FAN! that fan that cools down the processor to allow the fast movements to give the vibrant pictures in stunning accurate pixle compounds. it will cost about $50 for the fan and $200 for the guy/girl to install it.

So there you are a complex problem with a simple answer. you are one lucky person, you choose the right television the only factory defect was the fan. your t.v should last 15years without any serious problems.

I hope this has helped you folks. i am called the flat pannel Guru in my buisness.
