It just happend I believe it to be a Hardware issue as also happens during the boot up it may be the Inverter but not sure as when I reset the inverter it works normally

Initially screen blanking out for a second or a few seconds and a message similar to; "video card stopped responding but is recovered" Then one day a split screen with a horizontal white line. Computer fails to boot vista and self repairs and restore doesn't change it.

What were the circumstanses that led up to this problem, did it just boot up one day like that, or were you doing something specific when it happened

Sounds like the NVIDIA chip. I had a guy on ebay fix mine a month or so ago for a real good price but I wasn't able to find the listing to give you the information.

I have exact same problem. Split screen top and bottom. I had it checked out by a tech and they said it needs a new MB and Hard drive. They said it would cost $1900. Every now and then it comes good for anf hour or so. However, have you had the problem fixed yet? Could it be the NVIDIA Video card? I haver heard these can be trouble. A fault that HP knew about. Have you found a solution?

My screen has split in half horizontally mirroring the top with the bottom.

Back-light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Scroll down to the subheading - HP Pavilion dm1. (dm1 in blue)
Go down to the second line in this 'paragraph', and scroll across.
Click on the blue dv9000.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (9000) it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up.

HP pavillion dv9000 has black horizontal lines across screen and looks like a snowy background

Sounds like the screen is going bad. Isolate the problem by plugging an external monitor to the laptop. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to plug to the laptop. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the Borrowed monitor does not show the black lines and snowy background, that proves your video card is ok and the problem is your lcd screen. If the borrowed monitor shows the same black lines ans snowy background it means your video card inside the computer has the issue.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

Getting colored vertical lines on the screen of my hp pavilion dv9000. I've come across this a couple of times and was able to fix it by pc recovery. Not this time. I'm getting the virtical colored lines...

Typically you are looking at a hardware problem here. Vertical lines typically indicates there's interference in the video stream received on the display, or a problem with the panel itself. You might be able to open the device and try to reseat the ribbon, but you risk destroying the device in the process if you don't know what you're doing.

My laptop screen is black. All light across the

Do you see the BIOS boot up phase, which is the bit in the beginning of booting the computer where you see DOS like white text on a black background?

If you do, there is a good chance that your problem is as simple as a Windows configuration issue. If not, you may have a short in the wires that connect the screen to the motherboard.

The first thing to try is to connect the computer to an external monitor and see if it will display.

Next, try booting in safe mode.

Then try booting from a CD.

It is possible to replace laptop screens, but it is usually not worth it.

I too have a dv9000 and the same thing happened to me 1.5 years ago. I had lights but no screen or desktop. The laptop was still under warranty so I sent it back to HP and they replaced the processor at no charge. I believe that they are also replacing parts for out of warranty as well. Also the DV9000, DV6000, DV2000 and the Compaq V2000 have been recalled for problems with the motherboard. The link below is for the recall. Hope this helps. David.

Hp dv9000 switches on to show coloured lines on screen.

My first guess is that the screen circuitry has gone bad - although fixable. Use an external monitor to verify this. If the external monitor is fine then the screen circuitry is bad, if the external screen shows the same problem then the video chip or associated circuitry has gone bad. My company fixes these all the time.
