Re: olympus D-510 camera, lens won't extend at all
Sounds as if it could be an issue with the sensor behind the lens cover door. Unfortunately Olympus is no longer repairing this camera. You may want to call their customer service to discuss what your options are at this point. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

That really sound like bad batteries. You could try the new Lithium batteries, however this camera takes a proprietary battery, a CR-V3 - 1,400mAh, 3 volt battery and it is Lithium Ion. All here
If the camera is within warranty, return it to where you bought it. Common fault with a few different brands, to do with a lens open sensor within the lens assembly itself. Maybe allow the camera to dischage without the battery for a few hours and see does it power on with a new battery. Also chack the battery, if it has bubbled it a dud, and check the battery contacts within the battery compartment.
Possibly dirt ingress. or dirty battery contacts. Remove battery and clean the internal contacts in the battery chamber An eraser on the end of a pencil is good for this If it is damage that is causing the problem - there in nothing for you to do. These things dont get repaired. If still under warranty try that route.
After talking, without any success, to your expert I tried experimenting. It seemed like the sliding lens cover was the main reason for it to behave as it did. It turned out that the lens cover had a worn track and did not always operate the lens motor switch to open it, or pressure on the cover caused the lens to retract. All it needs is a new sliding cover.
a mechanism in the camera is broken or shifted. this is hard to fix byurself because so small and 2 dangerous trying 2 open urself. get to neighborhood electronics or a repir shop.
The cover opens in two positions. To completely open the lens cover for shooting images, slide the lens cover over until you hear two clicks. When the camera is on the first position, you can playback images.
