If the password was set on the hard disk from the laptop that it was install on, then you can reset or remove the hard drive password using the BIOS configuration, you need to enter the existing hard drive password to this.
There are no back door paswords available, if you ca't remove the password then the drive is useless. This protection is use to prevent unauthorized access to data stored on the hard drive.

To get the laptop operational again you need to replace the hard drive and install Windows again.

Most Toshiba laptops you need an adapter that jumps several wires across the Parallel port which triggers the BIOS to reset. You can purchase those online at places like EBAY.

You've probably got to have your computer configured to boot from a rescue CD before it can recognize and install the new harddrive. Also make sure that there is an operating system installed on the hard drive . If not it will not do anything until you install one. This will be automatic if you install a new XP or Vista DVD into the computer's DVD drive the reboot.

Lost password and boot cd,cant get passed, the password lock

Hi,

There are a couple options you can try. First being the recovery partition. Most Vista computers come with a section of the hard drive that contains all the files for reinstalling windows. You can boot to that partition and restore windows to factory defaults (This WILL erase all data on the computer). To do so you need to turn off the laptop, hold down the '0' key, turn on the laptop, and release when the toshiba image appears. After that you should get a "Loading Windows Files" progress bar.

The other option are using one of several bootable discs that allow you to reset your user's password. There is only really one that I use myself, the Ubuntu Live CD (it will set up a temporary Linux operating system that you can use without affecting your Windows installation). From there you can reset your windows password. If you want more details on that method let me know :)

Hope that helps

Trying to find a way to reset or bypass the HDD1 user password on my Toshiba A135-4527 laptop. It was reset somehow to something we do not remember. Hoping I do not have to replace the harddrive. Saw...

The hard drive password is set from the BIOS configuration where the hard drive was installed and you need to know the password to remove the existing password. You can only remove the password from that computer's BIOS and moving the hard drive to another omputer will not allow you to remove the password or access any data on that hard drive because the password is stored in the hard drive's firmware. This password protected hard drives prevents unauthorized access to the data on that hard disk.
Removing the BIOS battery will reset the BIOS but will not remove the password.
Some computers have been setup with Power On Passwords and/or hard drive passords and it is possible to hack/read the Power On Password that is stored on an EEPROM chip on the laptop, but it is not a simple process.
You will need to buy a new hard drive and now you also have a nice paper weight.

HELP

If the BIOS and the Hard Drive are locked, it's not something you should be attempting yourself. Toshiba would be the people to approach, at one of their dealerships. If the laptop is still under warranty they should unlock it for free, if not there will be a charge. You will also need to prove ownership of the laptop before they can proceed, so remember to take that documentation with you.
