Ok there is a fix on spellbounds website. Go to http://www.spellbound.de/front_content.php?idcat=17&cat=5&sblinkid=3 or spellbound.de and make sure to use to UK English. Then go to support and choose downloads then game then first class add on on the bottom. I have windows 7 and this worked for me.

I suggest you scan for viruses and malware first. If nothing is found it could either be a software conflict or the programme has cannibalised parts of windows and/or replaced them with none-windows versions and made it unstable.
You could try System Restore but that has never worked for me. I usually end up formatting the drive and reloading everything.
Putting the system disc in the drive and booting from the disc I think offers a repair solution and it might be worth trying that.
I have used XP for years and I now have a laptop with a respectable specification running Windows 7. I find it slow and temperamental by comparison even though I have reloaded it twice.
The supplied serial doesn't work even though it is an official disc and I sometimes think Microsoft is somehow attacking my computer...
try updating your graphics card drivers, if that doesn't work, try restarting the computer, going into advanced boot options, and then, first select last known good configuration, and if it doesn't work... try using system restore... if that doesn't work as well, it means, that a startup program might be at fault, try this.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353 ...
Good luck with the steps..
Hmmm... I'm able to run Prototype at 1440*900, which is my monitor's native resolution. Are you saying that it won't LET you change the resolution or something? It should be under OPTIONS > VIDEO.
Question for you though, Did you BUY the game? Or just download it? If you bought the game and it's doing that, try reinstalling.
If you downloaded ( and by download I mean pirated, not Paid DDL ) then I guess just accept that you at least get to play the game without paying for it. Also, if this is the case, I'd have to recommend Razor1911's releases because they're superior to other cracking groups >_>
I was having the same trouble! alright, what you should do is go to "My
Computer" or "Computer" and look for the icon with the game thing...
The game icon =P. Right click, and look for the explore option. It
will take you to some files. Each file for each seperate game is labeled with the initials of the game (i.e. And Then There Were None is Attwn) click on which game you want to install, click the setup icon. If it birngs up a zip file, click on the other setup, and it should run the installation! =D
