SOURCE: 14" Remington chain replacement

I input "Remington; EL-1; 14"; All; All; All" here:
Oregon Bar & Chain Selector
http://www.oregonchain.com/pro/lookups/selguide.aspx?BusId=OCS&SellReg=USA&LangId=ENG
It returned "91VG050G, 91VX050G or 91VXL050G". Please read the triangular warning placards. The original chain is most likely green.

Column 4 says a 14" chain has 50 drive links (the part in the bar groove". Please count them, if you get a different number try a different length bar. The Oregon part number can be ordered on line or if given to a local merchant fabricated in their facility.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

SOURCE: Need replacement chain for remington

Hi jvaltha,

Here is a website that carries the chain for your EL-1 saw: http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/default.aspx?ext=true&itemid=091374S&size=small The part number is a replacement for the original chain, which Remington must not offer any more.

That same site also carries a chain for your LNT 8 saw, but there are different subcategores, LNT1, LNT2, and 8A and B. I'll paste the address for the page where you have to choose your option: http://www.desaparts.com/remington-chainsaw.html

FYI, You don't need to buy a remington chain to fit your saws. Just buy a chain that is the right length and matches the rest of the specs on your chain, the pitch etc. .050,.025, and so many teeth per inch and so forth. Then you can buy locally.

Hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate a 4 thumbs up...keeps me working. Thanks,

Handie Andie

Electric chain saw pole wouldn't cut branches

Check to make sure the blade is not installed backwards. It's an easy mistake to make, everything will work OK, but the saw won't cut if the blade is on backwards.

THE CHAIN SAW RUNS. THE CHAIN XS NEW. IT DOESN'T CUT THE SMALLEST OF BRANCHES

I don't mean to sound offensive, but is the chain on the right way? I've put 'em on backwards, even started the saw before I noticed. And is the chain running when the motor runs?

If the chain is right then you may have gotten a chain with a bad grind. Never heard of it but it could sure happen. Get back with me if the chain is right and it's turning- we'll get it to cut.

The switch of the saw is not working 00

You need an AC voltmeter to trace the problem with the switch. It can also be a bad motor brush/spring--these saws are great for killing motor brushes, and there are virtually no replacements available as Remington has ceased saw operations. If it is a bad brush, visit an electrical tool shop to see if they have something that will work from a different brand of tool. Good luck!

Your only hope is to find similar brushes made for some other tool. Remington saw has gone out of business. This seems to be a common problem with this brand of saw. Good luck!

You can download a very Remington OM here:
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/msservice_net/product_files/113005-01D/113005-01D_OM.pdf
A few minutes spent reading will doubtless answer all questions.

I think this is what you requested.

Please look carefully at the orientation of the expanded chain. It is possible to install a chain backward. Good Luck. HTH.

Remington.com
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/Default.aspx
Enter M15014US (your saw) in the “Search for your unit by Model” window. You can find both an Operator's Manual and IPL. I recommend you download both.

Item 4 lists available bars for your saw, a 14" bar for your saw is pn 114731-01S, $17.85 if available.
Item 5 lists available chains for your saw, a 14" chain for your saw is pn 114735-01S updates to M14SC
, $12.95 if available. You can probably take your chain to a neighborhood chainsaw shop and have a replacement made cheaper.

Remington has ceased production and replacement parts are limited to what is on hand. HTH

Remington electric chain saw 3.5 -14''

I just had my Rem. EL-8 (Mod#107624-02, 3 HP 11.5Amp) quit, too. It was less than 2yrs old, had very low hours and no abuse. I pulled it apart and found that a motor brush was burned out (at the brush electrical lead; the braided wire connecting to the winding). Unfortunately, I checked with Master Distributors (http://www.nbmc.com/ ) and the brush assembly is no longer available. (For a less than 2-year old saw!!) They do have some parts for Remington saws, however.

Premature burnout seems to be a function of some combination of:
- using a too-light gauge extension cord for the amperage of your tool / length of extension. You can find recommendations for proper minimum gauge on the web. (This shouldn't have been the problem in my case because I used a 12-ga. 25' extension.) See: http://www.askthebuilder.com/B174_Extension_Cord_Size_Chart.shtml
- running too hard (big wood) for too long. I admit this seems pretty subjective; if the saw is cutting, why quit, right? But it's probably important to ease up and not let it get too hot.
- poor saw design. (internal parts don't match the power/amperage involved.)
