On your laptop, do you have both RJ45(connector type for CAT-5 / Ethernet) and wireless capabilities? Are you trying to connect just wireless or hardwired or both? Go to your Network properties on the other pcs and try to mimic the settings. If you have a secure encrypted wireless connection, you'll have to get the Pass Phrase or Password for your router. There are many things associated with what your problem "could" be, but I'd have to know precisely how your network is configured to run...DHCP or Static? Correct PORT settings? Firewall settings? Get as much info as you can give me, and I'll try to help!

Please follow the steps provided below:

Q: Basic Wireless Troubleshooting
A:
Wireless Troubleshooting
The following steps will help determine if the wireless card in the system is functioning properly.
IMPORTANT:
Please go through all the troubleshooting steps. If the wireless card is functioning properly, please check the network configuration. Acer America can not assist with configuring the network.
Before you start:
  • Make sure there is a wireless router or wireless access point.
  • The wireless router/access point is plugged in.
  • Refer to the owners manual to ensure the wireless adapter is on (you can turn the wireless card on and off by pressing a clear button)
  • Contact the internet service provider to make sure ther account is active and the network is connected in a way that supports their configuration.
If the computer was working properly at an earlier time:
If the laptop was working fine, do a System Restore which rolls the system back to the last known working configuration. System Restore is located in System Tools under Accessories. Here is a link to explain the use of this feature:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306084
To find the wireless network:
1. Click on Start winxpstart%20button.jpg then click on "Control Panel."
xpmenu.jpg 2. In the Control Panel window, click on "Network and Internet Connections."

xpcontrolpanel.jpg
3. In the "Network and Internet Connections" window, click on "Network Connections."

networkconnect.jpg 4. Once in Network Connections, right-click on the wireless connection then select "View available wireless networks"
5. If the wireless network is a secured network, please refer to the manual of the wireless router to make it unsecured for the purpose of testing the wireless network.
NOTE: Acer does not recommend leaving a wireless network unsecured and is not responsible for data accessed due to unsecured wireless networks.
6. If the wireless network is listed, the wireless adapter is functioning properly. If unable to connect to the wireless router, go through "Before you start" at the beginning of this article.

I want to connect with the internet but they say there is no access point doesn't matter where i am can you explain it how to do it the easy way

To connect to the Internet via a wireless router both the wireless router and your wireless card in you computer needs to be configured.
Your wireless router, the router needs the wireless settings to be configured with the SSID, encryption key etc., alsothe wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers cancommunicate with your wireless router.

Can't get wireless to work on laptop

You may use the System restore utility on windows by going to all programs then Accessories... Open system Tools and then System Restore. You may resotre your system to an earlier time, time when you are still able to connect to your router wirelessly.

I formatted my system and reinstalled Win XP on it, but now I could not use wireless to connect with internet

Make sure you have Wireless network adapter driver installed.

Manually assigned IP address and DNS address as earlier (if your IP setting is not automatically assigned by DHCP server).

If you are using router set your Router IP address as your Default Gateway Address.

If you are using Internet through a Proxy Server then Open "Internet Explorer ",
Click "Tools",
Click "Internet options",
click on tab called "Connection",
Click "Lan settings" Button.
Remove "Automatically detect settings".
Tick "use a proxy server for your LAN....."
Type the IP address of your Proxy Server and the port no.

It will work.

Sorry for the earlier post:

Well, this sounds a lot like a virus... Usually, viruses ten to wake up when the computer is connected to the internet. The first most basic thing to do is to disconnect the computer from the internet and start scanning viruses. I can guarantee that you will probably find small viruses, but nothing major. Most chances is that you will have to format and install the computer, so I would urge you to save all important information. You can try to insert the original windows CD, if you have it. Insert the disk as soon as you restart and then boot from the disk. The windows installation will ask you if you want to repair the windows installation, and you can choose this option. However, it is most recommended that with such aggressive viruses, as you have, to format the whole computer and install the windows

No Internet

Hi,

You may try checking the network driver of your computer.

1. click start --- right click "My computer / Computer".

2. click Manager then look for device manager.

3. under device manager on the left column. Look for your network adapter if it has a yellow question mark or a red x mark.

Red X - disabled.(right click then select enable)
yellow mark - driver is not installed/corrutped (you need to install the driver online or from the cd that came with the computer)

4. Restart

Now, if the issue still the same. Try a different computer and check if you can connect to the internet. If the issue still the same. Call you Internet service provider to check on the connection.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

I CANT GET MY LAPTOP TO WORK WITHOUT THE ETHERNET CABLE IN?

Hi,

When was the last time using your internet connection wirelessly? If this is the first time you will use your wireless internet. You may need to check it with your internet service provider or you may check it with your wireless modem (router) manufacturer.

Using wireless internet connection, you will need to configure the settings in the wireless modem (router). you will need to get an admin password and username.

If you were able to connect to the internet wirelessly, check if you wireless icon (WIFI) on your laptop is on.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
