The laptop can't find a hard disk, eirher the hard drive is faulty or not seated properly.
Take out the hard drive and reseat it again then see if the laptop boots up. If it still can't find the hard drive, listen to the hard drive, is it spinning up, is it making clicking noises? This indicates a faulty drive and needs to be replaced.
You can also test the hard drive by removing the hard drive and attaching it to a USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port. If the hard drive is OK then the computer will see it as an external drive and you can view and open the files.

Hi, you probably have this sorted by now, but i want to help others who may be experiencing this problem.
From reading many forums like this one i found that i needed to go into the Boot tab of the setup, something called BIOS. the comments told me that i needed my laptop to recognise the hard drive first, then USB devides, then the Realteak thing. Thats where the advice ended and my Laptop had a USB thing and the Realteak thing but no sign of anything saying hard drive.
So i took apart my laptop and found that my Hard drive had become dislodged. i Put it back in place and tried again. This time it came up and put that in first place and now it works!
None of the solutions included this method (either had take it apart, or adjust the boot settings) so i thought i would share.

Black screen says PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable, Operating System not found. I hear wierd sounds from the computer.

Sounds like it could be a bad hard drive. With your laptop turned off, take out the hard drive and put it back in and make sure its nice and snug.

Then go ahead and turn on the laptop and see if you can boot back up into windows.

If you can't get into windows and you get the same message then boot up the laptop and go into the BIOS by pressing F2. When you get into the BIOS look and see if your BIOS is recognizing the hard drive, if it's not seeing the hard drive then that means your hard drive is bad and would need to be replaced.

If your hard drive is showing up then that means you have corrupt system files and you'll need to restore your laptop back to factory defaults with your recovery cd's.

PXE-E61: media test failure check cable

The PXE-X61 error means that the laptop cannot detect the hard drive. This can be caused by a faulty disk controller, or a faulty disk drive.
1st. Reseat the hard drive and see if the laptop boots up.

2nd. Go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.

3rd. If the BIOS can't detect the hard disk, the remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer detects this drive as an external disk drive and you can see the contents of the hard drive, then the hard drive is OK and the fault is in the laptop.

4th. If the hard drive cannot be detected then the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace the faulty hard drive in your laptop and install Windows to get an operating laptop again.

Booting problems with acer laptop - no operating system found??

Hi,

PXE (pronounce Pixie) is an agent used to boot on to the network.

It's using the DHCP protocol to localise a server where the image of the OS is located

If, for any reason, the hard drive is not seen the computer will attempt to boot on the network controller.
This can be caused if the hard drive is missing, unplugged or corrupt, or simply by not having the boot order configured correctly.

When you start your laptops, press F2 repeatedly until you enter the bios set up, navigate to the boot order and make sure that the hard drive (sometimes listed as HDD....) at the top of the list.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anymore help.

Hello jarkk, I believe your problem is with your backlight inverter. the hard drive should be installed for this process of checking it on an external monitor. with the hard drive removed it will not boot to the operating system. with the drive in, use the external monitor. if the monitor works when plugged into the external monitor plug, this will eliminate a bad video card. if the screen is still black on the laptop screen, replace your backlight inverter. the last case cenario is to make sure your backlights are not burnt out.

Acer Aspire 5050 won't boot up

ooh...no operating system. not good. ok..can you boot from CD? if that works, and it asks you to reformat the hard drive, STOP. Take the hard drive out, and then GENTLY reinstall. Maybe that will work. HD's can fail on laptops, just by a series of vibrations or shocks to the case.

got backup for your Acer?
