My husqvarna 980 has an electronic problem

Each time I switch it on it responds differently to whatever mode button I select - some buttons don't work at all - even the straight stitching is irregular?

Sounds like the sewing machine computer needs to be reset.  Try powering down the unit, then unplug it for about 5 minutes. Plug it back in. and power it up and see if you still have the same problem. Usually this would reset it.
Hope this helps.

Hi!

There are two separate memories on your model, with a wide variety of stitches to choose from. When you choose a setting, the machine will tell you what presser foot to use, and what tension you need for the stitch you are using.

Are you using the right foot and the right stich setting?
If yes then its a memory problem for your machine.

You will most likely need a new main board for it to work correctly, but it would be cheaper just to buy another new machine, most likely not that model if it is giving you problems like that.

Sounds like you may need the main circuit board replaced. If you are not a huge electronic person, most people aren't then you can try seeing what a repair might cost or you can move on to a new model. I can find a list of businesses close to you if you provide your zip code.

Am having trouble with my husqvarna prisma 980 sewing machine withe mechanism that pushes the material further automatically as I am sewing.

The amount of pressure on the pressure foot can cause real problems. If you lower the pressure on the foot it is likely to work better. If this doesn't work try using another type of material. Some materials have problems because of being slippery or too thin. If this doesn't work check to see if the pressure foot is directly on top of the feed dogs. If it is it will need to be adjusted so that it isn't directly on top of the feed dogs.

since the sewing machine was given to you, it might be a good idea to have the sewing machine serviced to see if there is a problem with the reverse and stitch setting.

How do I program my Viking 980 sewing machine? I can't find my manual & I think this machine can be programmed to stitch a word/phrase at one time, but I can't figure it out.

First touch the "P" button, the #1 will appear in the left digital window. Choose the first letter you want to sew and then push the reverse button, ( the button furthest to the left with the upside down arrow on it) that puts your first letter into memory. Then select your next letter and push the reverse button again. Repeat the process until your word is programmed into the machine. You can start sewing immediately by pressing on the foot control. Pressing the finishing button (Bullseye) before you start to sew, will make the machine tie off each letter so you can cut the joining stitches. Husqvarna may be able to make you a copy of the manual. They can be reached at: 1-800-474-6437 Good Luck

Husqvarna Prisma 980 decorative stitch cassettes don't work

Hi,
On that machine, the cassettes aren't actually computer chips. Each cassette has a little spot of white on a certain little area you must find (top right I'm pretty sure). Look in the machine at that point. There is a sensor that looks for that white spot, and as it identifies it, it changes stitches according to that cassette. Either the sensor is blocked, gone bad, or you can put a fresh coat of white paint on with white out. I hope this helps.
