I need to replace the cpu fan with heat sink on my acer aspire 3004wmi model notebook. To do so I must remove the entire back of the notebook. I have removed all screws but it still will not lift off.

What kind of cpu cooling fan can I use in a Acer America ASE380-UD420A desktop computer?

Cooling fan to CPU are come along with the CPU. You can use any other fan, having speed regulator pin, ie, the connector wire to it will have three conductors. Keep a close look at the size and seating screws to its body to the heat-sink of the CPU.

completely remove all screws and dissassemble laptop (youtube will describe how).
Clean laptop completely and inspect for water damage spills clean with tootbrush gently be careful if corroded not to remove components with your cleaning.
i use an alcohol 99% after a water dish-soap solution on toothbrush but is like digging up dinosaurs one must be gentle and slow.
watch the fumes on alcohol are explosive with a spark.
I would clean the fan area and cooling fin area at same...
and put new heat-sink on CPU and GPU.
take pics of )and put screws in multi containers to keep track of them.
be gentle on mother board and screen.

I have broken sunon maglev ventilator in acer aspire

Replace the inner part of the fan - some unit just slip right out.
check on kijiji and find a local computer repair guy that will sell you one for 5 or 10 bucks, or get a broken laptop for 50 to 100 and lots of parts. I had one broken wing and broke on off the other side to even it out... even though one side had 1 extra wing it wasn't that far off balance so vibration should be minimal.
if you keep your laptop clean inside around the heat-sink and fan area and put silver heatsink on the gpu and cpu as well as install the manufacturer drivers and update them to cool things down and speed things up and keep things from heating up.
One more issue is the charging port and charger end get frayed and or loose and will cause heating issues and have caused fires.
Replace batteries that are weak as they are continually charging too much.... Store batteries and at 70% and don't pull them out of the laptop while it's plugged in.
Fully charge batteries and fully discharge them between charges.
Good to have 2 batteries.
Don't use hot batteries especially after charging and don't charge a hot battery.

You might get away with just changing the CPU but the rest of the computer architecture needs to support 64 bit transfer or you are wasting your money. Check it out FIRST!

When the CPU in the computer or laptopoverheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot upagain until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then theCPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes this problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan. If the fan and heat sink is clogged withdust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use acan of compressed air to do this.

The bracket clip that holds the fan down broke. Is there a fix or do I buy a new fan?

If you are innovative enough one can improvise by simply hold the fan to the heat sink with copper wire in case only one bracket is broken. The fan only requires to be on the heat sink to remove heat from the processor. Otherwise the fan & heat sink as one sealed unit only. Else try out the junk yard and see if you can hunt for one where PC's are dumped !

However if you want your PC to last for 2-3 yrs more, trouble-free, then my recommendation would be to replace the fan+heat sink unit, 'cos if the heat conducting paste between the processor & heat sink, if disturbed cannot be replaced to its original capacity & the processor will overheat and the PC will auto shut down repeatedly, till the processor is damaged permanently! .............................sodeep

System fan failed

Whether this is a laptop or desktop you didn't say but it only matters in how hard the repair is. If desktop you can replace the CPU fan. They are usually clipped or screwed ontop of the CPU. Usually the heat sink will come off with it. You'll need to buy an exact replacement and a little tube of heat sick compound. Once you have a new one reverse your steps except first put some heat sink compound on top of the CPU. If this is a laptop then take it to a reputable repair person. Replacing laptop fans requires stripping down the machine.

Acer Aspire 5003 Thermal Module

Greetings,
I believe that the 'silver pad' you are talking about is likely a thermal pad which creates intimate thermal contact in the same manner as a thermal compound. As long as the pad has not deteriorated then you can reuse it. If that helped please rate me well.
