1 Answer

My mac is not recognizing my Lacie 1 TB, it started a week ago. It used to work fine for 2 months or so. I got this Lacie less than 3 months ago. I have fully stored my all my music there, but now I can t open it. When I attached Lacie to Mac the fan just keep going on Lacie, and some crunching noise comes. What should I do, how I can save all my music iTunes (138000) songs. Thank you for help and advise!!

my mac doesn't recognize the laCie 1 tb.
It has been send to LaCie in France and 'fixed"
No problems were found but they still flashed a port,
    whatever that means.
On return I tried it, but NO GO...and the same noise,
dealer recons it is faulty, I lost all my valuable data

I had the same issue -- turned out that power supply was going bad so the drive wouldn't spin up all the way; this could explain the strange noises you're hearing. I put in a support ticket with LaCie at their website and they sent me a new power supply at no charge (I was within the warranty period, I think).

Some flash drives need to be formatted for the the device that you use it on.
the Mac you are using it on may not recognize the device and see it as incompatible.

hello, if the hdd is not being recognize by your Sony laptop, may be because the device is not responding any more, anyway this is still new you can have that Hitachi replace via the warranty, but your not suppose to tell them what happen cause that would fall for intentional damage. Just tell them it stop working. Thank you for using Fixya

the problem is that your lacie drive operates using the NTFS (New Technology File System) under USB which is the standard file system of Windows. Apple mac is not interopable with native NTFS therefore you need to install a read-write NTFS file-system driver on your mac if you wish to use it via the USB connection.

an excellent free mac NTFS driver can be found here-
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/NTFS-3G.shtml

download and install the software then restart your mac.

La cie hard drive mount issues

I had the same problem and surprisingly, after many attempts to get the drive to mount with different connections, etc., the problem turned out to be the power adapter. If you've got the same kind of adapter on another drive, switch it out and see if your drive shows up. Good luck.

LaCie 1 TB Hard drive won't boot

I lave lots and lots of experience with LaCie Drives (I have 6 of the 2TB models). Every, every, every time a drive fails or runs slowly, it is the power supply. I have now replaced 5. They run very hot (so does the drive), and fail pretty often. It looks like the voltage drops just a smidge, and access times seem to increase, i.e., the drive "runs slow". Then it won't boot at all, and the blue light keeps blinking. Fortunately LaCie has replacement power supplies in the store. Buy a couple extra. I am married to the LaCie drives now, or I would probably switch brands. I kind of guess that they know about this because I contacted the help desk, and he wasn't surprised. Maxtor has a nice drive, and the Calvary drive is $150 cheaper. A drive is a drive I guess. By the way, if anyone is listening, how about building a QUIET, COOL drive with and INTERNAL POWER SUPPLY? GOT IT? All the cords and power supply bricks make me crazy. It might be nice to see a stackable drive where the top of one drive mates to the bottom of another, carrying network info as well as power to the drive above. Hint, hint. We all are building systems with ungodly amounts of storage. Too bad the manufacturers aren't building drives with the durability we need.

Hard drive not mounting on mac

Is the drive formatted NTFS? That will never mount on a mac, but can be seen in the Disk Utility.
