Question about HP Pavilion A820n (PP165AA) PC Desktop

1 Answer

The shut off buttom will not work.

On my HP Pavilion a820n, when I select Start, Shut Off does not work. I can shut the computer off by using Task Manager, but it takes 7 or 8 minutes to do so. Last November I installed a new gateway router for my DSL line because I purchased a wireless laptop. After that both computers were working fine. A month after that I installed a USB wireless adapter in the desktop, but it slowed everything down so much I disconnected the wireless adapter and decided I really don't need wireless on it. After that it was all working fine except for the shut-down problem. I am a woman in my eighties who can usually fix ordinary problems that come up on the computer, but doesn't understand a lot of the new things connected with wireless networks. I hope you can come up with a solution.

Green light on my power supply stays lit after unplugging

Usually the light will time out after the capacitor has drained. Your machine is getting a bit old , your PSU may be the problem. If you plug it in and push the on/off button and it blinks, fans spin and shuts down, it's most likely the PSU. Look for a in-line fuse on the Motherboard, if blown, replace. Look at the motherboard closely for damaged components, capacitors, etc.

My hp pavilion a820n computer will turn on but won't start up

As the computer is starting up keep hitting F8 until you come to the boot options screen. Once in the boot options select "Last Known Good Configuration" and see if it will start. If it still will not start then try and see if the computer will boot in safe mode (Do the F8 thing again until you reach the boot options screen again and click on "Safe Mode").
If it will not load into safe mode then you may need a Windows O/S Reinstall.

HP a820n No Power-up after City Power Failure

You have a bad power supply. It is not an expensive fix. Remember HP's take HP power supplies. When ordering either look on ebay for your model or order from part supplier.

HP pavilion dv1000 is not compatable with ATT woreless in the home. The computer if in range will shut down and reboot continually. Works with other wireless systems.

uninstall the software look for updated compatable drivers,or once pc has started go to control panel select administrative tools , services , and scroll down to wzc(windows zero config)
select it and start it.close all box's and now you can use wifi using window based drivers(cos its the devices program(manager)that is incompatable not the actual device and the device is installed but its program disabled.

My icons will not come on my desktop

This maybe due to the "explorer.exe" process not running. Try pressing ctrl-alt-del, to start the task manager then select the "processes" tab and click on "file". In the "create new task" window type "explorer.exe" (without quotes) & click OK. Your desktop icons should magically appear!
