Using the hard- and software combination mentioned above I have a problem: When sending a fax the receiving fax machine answers correctly, but during the handshake the connection fails. In Easyfax there appears an error message saying "modem error -122. test the connection and try again".
By the way, Easyfax does not use the settings in the control panel but you can configure a modem init in the program settings. Default is AT&D2.
<< Sorry, if you did not understand me correctly, but I already fail in SENDING a fax That's, indeed, possible. The fax protocol is an old one, predating the use of mobile phones by quite a number of years. It has a few timing constraints a mobile phone connection isn't always able to meet. Siemens' implementation of a Fax Class 1 computer interface doesn't help in this respect.
Another aspect is that fax machines, fax-modems and mobile phones don't always operate that well with each other. There are combinations which prove to be more troublesome than others. One of the fax machines at our offices is rather selective, for example. Using my Nokia 8810 there' s a chance of one in four of the fax getting through. While there's no problem in using a Psion Dacom V.34 Gold Card Global.
<< I do know that my C35 only supports Fax Class 1. But as Easyfax supports Class1, too, it should work with the right init string I'm afraid that's not the case. To cut a long story short, with Fax Class1 there's a higher chance that repeated time-outs occur between C35 and remote fax device. Resulting in the call being dropped when the maximum number of time-outs has been exceeded.

Yes, it is.
Thank you very much for your detailled explanations, Kevin. Yes, I have just tried sending a fax to our office, because there is a "fax only" machine. But, no success. The same error message appeared at the same time. :-(( What now?? Any idea?
Many regards from Germany, Thomas

Thomas Kranenberg < <-online.de Thomas,
I had the same problem trying to send faxes from my Series 5mx + Nokia 6210 to fax machines at offices in work. Is the machine you are sending to, one of those combination machines - fax, phone and answerphone, all in one unit?
Nearly all of the machines in my workplace are, and most are left in "auto" mode to detect who/what is calling. When a call is made, if this type of machine doesn't hear a fax "ready to send" tone being sent, it will switch to the phone/amswerphone after about 5 seconds. I have to make sure someone at the receiving end, manually sets the machine to "fax only" so I can send a fax to it!
As the 6210 modem doesn't appear to send the "ready to send" fax tone (it waits for the equivalent "ready to receive" tone from the _other_ machine), sending _always_ fails, with the 5mx fax program just "timing out". The fax machine in my office is just a fax machine, so will send the "ready to recive" tone when you ring it, and the 6210 starts sending.
Have you got a "fax only" machine you could try sending to?
Just a thought?
Cheers, Kevin.

Mike, thank you very much for your answer! Sorry, if you did not understand me correctly, but I already fail in SENDING a fax. Yes, I have tried the AT&F string, but the problem kept the same: the receiving fax machine on my desk answers the call, I can see the fax identity of Easyfax in its display, my C35 reads FAX on its display, the machines both try to connect baut fail with the error message above. I do know that my C35 only supports Fax Class 1. But as Easyfax supports Class1, too, it should work with the right init string. Unfortunately the modem commands by SIEMENS (*.PDF) do not say anything about fax. Please, could you give me more hints??
Please see my email.
Many regards, Thomas

The C35 phone only supports Fax Class 1 which is not ideally suited to use over GSM networks. I have normally managed to send faxes with my S35i but receiving them is extremely unreliable. I don't know what intialisation options are in Easyfax but the usual setings for Siemens phones are a reset string of "AT&F" with the fax string left blank.
Do you have the URL to download Easyfax as I have been unable to find it in the downloads for either S5 or Revo on Psion's site? Alternatively, could you email me a copy and I'll put it on my website. Thanks.

I have a 9 year old siemans washer/dryer which has recently developed a mind of it's own. It stops during a wash cycle, if I switch it off and on again it starts and completes the wash but stops during each rinse cycle, again I have to switch it off an on every time. It doesn't do it quite so often if I use the higher water level button
