I think it is usb, not sure why that happens though. Panasonic for some very weird reason mixes upper and lower case letters in some of their on screen bits, so you never know for sure. I know nothing about this stuff but was having a similar problem with not being able to get the dvd recorder to record onto a dvd. This was after I had set up the camcorder to the set the day before. I finally went to 'input select' on the remote and changed it until it worked again, just go through each setting until everything is back to normal. Somehow, it appears as if the dvd recorder got itself set to the camcorder and would not let go of that setting without changing the input select. I have no idea why because I never touched the input select before this, I always controlled everything with the Directv remote. Hope this helps someone.
The gray strips usually mean the camera has dirt video heads - if it hasn't been dropped. Get a head-cleaning tape from Radio Shack or Best Buy, and run it a few times. If that doesn't do it, it'll have to be cleaned by a repair shop. Off brand tapes sometimes can cause this.
I HAD THIS PROBLEM ERROR CODE C31 : 22 WOULD COME UP AND TRV 118 CAM WOULD NOT WORK. I TRIED EVERYTHING TILL ONE DAY I BANGED IT ON A CARPETED FLOOR ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CAMCORDER 5 TIMES QUITE HARD. THEN THE CAM WORKED JUST FINE! MY CAM HADN'T WORKED FOR OVER 7 MONTHS. NOW I HAVE IT BACK. HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE.
please try to playback these new recordings on some other Camcorder. If you experience good picture on the borrowed Camcorder it means that the video head is (partly) damaged. In order to cure this the video head is to be replaced. Please contact the Authorized Sony Service or the technician with the best references.
if it is only recording bright light sources then it must be working fine outdoors in broad day light. if so, it means the auto iris of your camera has stucked to minimum opening. was the camera lying idle for long time. try pointing the camera towards low light and bright light with quick moves.some times by doing so it gives a little jerk to the mechanism and it starts working, or lightly patting the camera on the lense side may solve the problem. otherwise let the repaires earn some money.
For Models: CC4352, CC4362, CC4393.
Your camcorder has a wide format recording mode that lets you make recordings compatible with the 16x9 format. When 16x9 is activated, the camcorder records black bars at the top and bottom of the picture to produce the wide-screen (movie) effect. This is also known as "letterbox" recording.
Do not use this mode unless you have a compatible 16x9 TV. When played on a regular TV, black bars appear on the screen.
If the 16x9 feature is activated on your camcorder and you want to turn it off, press REC/PAUSE to pause recording, and repeatedly press DIGITAL EFFECTS until no digital effects display appears.
