Question about Dell W4200 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

3 Answers

My Dell w4200hd will not turn on. The color on the little light by the power on/off switch will change from what I think is standby color to a different color when I try and turn it on, and I hear something "click" in the tv, but it doesn't turn on. If I unplug the tv and plug it back in, the light color returns to the standby color. I was told by a technician that I need a new power supply. However, I don't know where to find one. Any help either confirming that I do in fact need a new power supply, and if I do, where I can find one would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you decide that it is not fixable, are you willing to sell the stand?

Green light blinking on logic board

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

If blinks continue without any pause, the main board is faulty.

The light is likely the standby light if it is on when set is off and goes out when set turned on or changes color when set comes on.

The fact the light is on should rule OUT the main fuse for the set, most likely the problem is the power supply itself inside the set

The Standby supply is part of the main power supply and when set is plugged in and off it runs 7/24.

Have you had problems where the set was "hard to turn on" or you had to try to turn it on several times before it would stay on?

Some power supplies have an independent switch to turn on the power supply before you can power up the computer from the front. Does yours have a switch on the back?

Dell Dimension 4550 will not power on but standby light on.

In all my years of fixing computers, 98% of the time it is the power supply, 2% the motherboard and 0% the switch. Just because the standby light is on does not indicate that the power supply is functioning correctly. The power supply puts out many different voltages....5v, 12v, 1.3v, and 3.3v. If the 3.3 is working then the standby light will come on but if any of the others are not working correctly then the computer won't turn on at all. You can check the switch by checking the resistance of the two wires that the switch are attached to using a multimeter. When the button is depressed, it should go to 0 and when it is not depressed it should be at 1. I would suggest swapping out with a known working power supply to verify the issue.

Hello. It looks like I have the same problem that you had with your Dell W4200HD.

Where did you find the new power supply for yours?

Also, did you determine that you didn't really need a new power supply and that it was just a connection problem? If yes, could you please give me some help with what you did to get yours working.

Also, do you still have the power supply you took out of your TV? If yes, would you be willing to sell it to me?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
