Altec 621 Speaker System - volume contol no up/down adjustment

I have 621 PC system (3 speakers - bought it on in 02), on/off works on contoller, but cannot adjust up or down from controller (no batteries). desktop volume control works but not the system contoller at all for up/down......any suggestions on how to determine if the problem is in the contoller itself or some other sustem failure? Thanks.

If you plug it in to your computer, a freeware program may still be able to recognize it and give you exact model numbers and IDs--worth a shot, and you'll love the program anyway--Belarc Advisor. It lists all hardware and software, model numbers, keys, etc. Hope it helps.

If you are using windows media player check if your player is configured to have an echo. If it is configured remove it. If it is not configured to have an echo and if you are using any soundcard have that sound card check by an expert or by your vendor and let them check it out if it is still under warranty.

Speaker is bad or the cable may have come loose. Has it been knocked around? If so it may have pulled the cable loose inside the speaker, try playing a song and wiggle the wire and push the wire in gently to see if it starts to play if it does you have found your problem. If not then the speaker is bad and I don't remember if you can pull it apart and buy a new speaker to install in it. Thanks for using Fix-ya and if this helps please rate this free question.

I have altec lansing speakers set up with my PC running XP. Worked great until last week one of the speakers, (right I think) stopped working. Yesterday no sound at all from any speaker except a hum.

Can't increase & decrease the volume

Double check your connections. Still not working fine. Remove the input jack connector and try to touch or hold the tip of the connector, also adjust the volume of the speaker, you should heard loudly the 60 hertz sound of your body signal. Otherwise you have a defective amplifier in the speaker system.
