This is gonna sounds nuts, BUT my iPod was doing the EXACT same thing, and I was given advice to give it a good whack on the side. So I did just that..........It worked again, I swear. I obviously didnt try to break it, but gave it a solid clack on my coffee table. When I tried to see if it worked, I could immediately feel the "hard drive" spinning, much moreso than when it was giving me the go to apple.com picture.

    Try it

This hard drive is screwed. youll need to buy a new one. fortunately this is going to cost much less than the ipod so go to apple.com/support/ipod and go to store and order a new hard drive. much cheaper to do yourself than sending it away out of warranty

My I pod stopped working

How old is the battery ipod batteries can only be recharged a certain ammount of times before they need replacing

If an iPod appears not to turn on, check the hold switch on the device.

If this switch is activated while the device is off, it will not power on again until the hold switch is turned off.

If that is determined not to be the problem, the battery's charge should be checked. When the battery is no longer holding a charge, the device will not power on, but will show a battery icon on the screen for a few seconds.
If you see this icon while trying to boot up the iPod, just connect it to the USB cable and allow the battery to charge, which can sometimes take up to 30 minutes before the iPod becomes operable again.

If no battery icon appears when trying to turn on the device, try resetting the iPod.
Once reset, the device should turn on, but if it does not, the battery may need to be drained first (by leaving the iPod disconnected from power for up to 24 hours), and the reset procedure tried again.
hope this helps

[1] You can restore an Apple TV (1st generation)'s software from the main menu by selecting Settings > General >Reset Settings > Factory Restore.
If you are unable to reach the settings menu, try the following [2]:
  • Press and hold both Menu and down (-) on the Apple Remote for 6 seconds or until the status light blinks amber.
  • The Apple TV should Reset itself and show you a screen where you can select one of the following: Restart ,Run Diagnostics o rFactory Restore. Select Restart.

Ipod is not ABLE TO FIND THE OS ON YOUR HDD.
try to bring it close to your ear an try to hear. See if you can listen to clicking sound. if it does click, your in trouble as your hdd is messed up..
nothing much you can do about it, just when its trying to start and it starts clicking bang your ipod ( on ur palm ) as this would help the hdd needle to skip and bad sectors and might work again !
    good luck.

First thing to try is a reset

    To reset your iPod:
    • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step
