Electric dryer will not heat. Just bought off of craigs list

Check the circuit breaker for the dryer. There are 2 of them side by side with their handles joined. Sometimes one will trip but not the other. This stops the heating element but not the rest of the dryer.

While it is possible to convert your dryer from electric to gas or vice versa, you will find the cost to be excessive and not worth consideration. A gas dryer will have3 a gas burner and ignitor circuit system while the electric dryer will have a heating element and controls. This is NOT a practical conversion nor would it be cost effective. If you need a gas dryer for your new home, purchase a new dryer or save a few $$$ and check your local Craig's List for a good deal on a used gas dryer. Just beware that you don't buy someone elses problem. There are legitimate sales caused by moving or upgrading appliances that will allow you to find a great bargain. Drop any notion of converting your dryer!

If you have 240 between the 2 element terminals, thats a bad element . If the dryer is running in the normal dry cycle when you take the measurement you should get 0 volts. 240 shows you have a break in the circuit.

My error you listed it, looks like it mounts onto the back couple screws and there should be two wires.

Note roll the dryer on it's nose, it will be alot easer to work on.

yes you can move them on craigs list or even ebay someone thinking about starting a laundry mat . they will be happy to save the money.+

Sounds like you have a warranty problem should be covered unless ya bought it on craig's list. Tom

hi thanks for the question does the dryer keep blowing the fuses after a short time if this is happening the problem is in the fuse box for the dryer .the fuse box has a loose connection . so every time you use the dryer the fuse gets hot & fails . replace the dryer duse box thanks the appliance doc

Thanks for all the input!  We reached a compromise in hiring an electrician who was willing to come out today and install the connection for half what everyone else quoted...on a Sunday!  The laundry piling up in the corner was very persuasive in convincing us that your advice (in the end, we'd need a professional no matter which way we went) was prudent.  Thanks. jersey p
