Question about Toshiba 46H84 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Vertical lines I've a Toshiba 46H84 Projection TV. When I first turn on TV, I've vertical lines across screen, but it does get better after it warms up. But now it seems to take longer to clear up, also I've noticed after it clears up, I've what they use to call ghost lines, but I use Directv satellite so that never has created a problem before, and I've two other TV's on the same dish without any problems. Before I noticed the vertical lines I did notice that the picture seemed dark and I adjusted the brightness on it, but it really did not make any kind of difference. Is this something I can repair myself by changing out a module? I've a Toshiba 46H84 Projection TV. First unplug the TV and leave it unplugged for about an hour. Whenthe TV is plugged back in it will be reset to the factory settings. Then go into the menu and try adjusting the convergence to correct theproblem. Problems with a projection TV are a very common occurrence. These sets will run hot inside and heat is the number one enemy ofelectronics. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak andbecome defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will causeother components to become defective. This can have a domino effect andcause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TVoperate for a short time but the part will fail again since if theparts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. For aproper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with thetest equipment and the skills to use the test equipment. The repaircost of most rear projection TV sets is in the ballpark of $400. Thisis why you can these TV sets not working at what would seem to be agreat deal. I wish I could tell you there was a button to push thatwould fix the TV but that is not possible.

Hello..Toshiba 51HC85, 2005 model. Turn on TV and verticle wavy lines appear until TV is warmed up completely. After warm up the picture is great again. Any ideas?

I've had the same problem for about the last 6 months. My workaround which was to leave the tv on 24 7 and just turn off the TWC service box. But now the symptoms are vertical dark lines going all the way across screen. My guess is that it will cost more to fix than worth it. I paid @$2000 for it new in 2004. Technology has gotten better so I may just go out and get a Samsumg for considerably less and be way better off. None of Toshiba's products had done well for me. 2 laptops, 3 tvs, etc. have taught me this.

You need to open the case, then remove the board from the unit, then check all the circuit, probably there's damaged circuit connections, use soldering iron to fix this problem....

I have vertical lines on my screen. They appear to

This a common problem in many of the Toshiba sets----set has a "HYPER" circuit board that processes all the signal for the set--surface mounted caps all start to dry out--always starts out where it will have the problem and then when on for a while it gets better and goes away--eventually when enough of the caps are gone--it never gets better.

Board is now only available by removing it and sending it out for rebuild/repair---company doining this is Pts electronics--part number is:

23148103Cost is about 180 dollars plus shipping and this may mean considering the labor to get the board out that the set is not worth repairing.

Sorry to give you bad news but I am certain this is what your trouble is.

I do this here for free so if this information helped you to decide what to do--take a minute and give me a vote here.

We also have vertical lines with our JVC 62"... turning it off and letting it cool down is the only solution. For us, we know it's a problem with heat. We simply are wits end on fixing it. added two additional fans, a exterior fan to blow heat away from the back of the tv, pulled everything else away, etc.... Anyway, goodluck.
