There should be a switch to adjust the speed of the brushes. if it is off the brushes will not spin. The only time the brushes are supposed to spin is when the handle is tilted back, and the switch is on.

My brush stopped spinning, but instead makes a loud plastic grinding noise.

Both ends of the brush roll should spin freely. You need to replace the brush roll.

Turbo tool used only once or twice, already brush moves so slowly it stops when I try to use. Brush can actually be stopped by hand. Manual says nothing at all about the brush ie. HOW to take apart to see...

It takes a lot of suction to spin the brush. First make sure the suction is good. Make sure the bag and/ or filters are clean. Replace if necessary. Most turbo tools can be opened up to clean. Most have a lever that allows you to open it up to clean hair, dust, etc from the fan and fan shaft and other areas inside the tool. The tools pick up a lot of hair and debris and some will wrap around the moving parts building pup to the point the brush will not spin fast enough. The same thing can happen to the brush roll on your vacuum so be sure to clean it too and replace the belt at least twice per year.

THE ROLLER BRUSH WILL NOT TURN. I PUT ON A NEW BELT AND IT BROKE IMMEDIATELY. THE ROD THAT HOLDS THE BELT IS MOVING BUT THE BRUSH IS NOT MOVING.

Apparently something is binding the brush, keeping it from turning. Remove any string, hair, etc., that is wrapped around the brush. Removing the brush is the easiest way to do this, then cut the material through at one point.
While the brush is out, check the ends for signs of damage that may cause the brush to bind. Also, check the area the brush connects to.
Reattach the brush and try to spin it. If it spins freely, put your vacuum back together, with another belt, and try again.
If this doesn't work, I suggest a new/different vacuum.

The brush attachment always slows when it hits carpet. I've replaced belts and it just doesn't do what its supposed to. I doesn't seem to work very well. If the brush isn't moving how could it move the...

One thing you might want to try is to see if the brush itself is binding up at the ends. When dirt gets in the end pieces and makes the brush difficult to spin, it will slow down, add to that the contact with the carpet and it may slow down even more. Give the brush and axle a good cleaning to see if it works better. Add a bit of WD40 to the ends of the brush axle.

Belt not moving

Hello,

There are actually two belts on the Dyson DC07. The one belt that you can physically see, and a second belt that connects the clutch assembly to the motor shaft. If you're able to spin the one belt that's attached to the brushes, but the vacuum is not spinning the brush, this can really only be one of two problems. Either the rear belt that connects the clutch to the motor shaft has fallen off, which would prevent it from spinning, or the clutch assembly itself maybe bad. Usually when the clutch goes bad however it will make a terrible grinding noise first.

Here's a video on how you can access your clutch, and inspect the rear belt. Either way you'll need to take it apart to diagnosis it.

Hope this helps you:

Thank you,

Chris J.

Brushes not spinning after change out

I got my brushes spinning by moving them while the unit was running. For mine it seems that they got stuck from sitting. The brushes move from the air driven motor unit. This works from the vacumm that is being put through the machine. I just spun the brushes while the unit was turned on. Don't get your fingers caught.
