I have an older creek 5350se. It has what appears to be bridging pins connecting the pre with the power sections of the amp. Can I connect the creek as a pre amp to a power amplifier.

Hi Lorne,

You can use the amp as a pre by removing the 'jumpers' - or as a power if required.

The 'jumpers' are simply used to connect (or disconnect) the amplifier's pre & power sections.

Hope this helps.

What is the funtion of tape out, tel, pre amp out , power out, vox, alc... & what is aux dfrs???

Tape out and tape in are to connect the record and playback leads of a tape deck. Pre-amp out is to connect a Power Amp to the unit. The pre-amp will only take the signals from the various sources and amplify them, but only to a weak level. The main reason people would use this is to connect a more powerful amp to the unit.
The Power out could be either the mains power for a turntable or for connecting a pre-amp or maybe to another to amp.
Haven't got a clue to the others sorry!

Wish to run sm450v2 Mackie powered speakers thru a Peavey XR8600

The Peavey XR8600 is NOT just an amp, but a powered mixer.

To SAFELY use this with your powered speakers, connect those speakers to the MAIN and MONITOR outputs on the front of the unit with 1/4 inch INSTRUMENT rated cables (NOT speaker cables).

To safely leave the power amps in the XR8600 with no output loads, plug GROUNDING plugs into the POWER AMP 1 and 2 input jacks on the front. This will prevent the power amps in the XR8600 from running with no load which COULD damage them.

Make the grounding plugs from 1/4 inch mono plugs by jumpering the centr aand sleeve terminals of the plug.

I don't know where to connect the main in & pre amp jacks??? to the EQ???

Not sure I understand your question, but I will try.
Your CD players, tape decks, etc., connect to the INPUTS on the preamp.

The LINE OUT on the PRE AMP connects to the LINE IN on the POWER AMP.
The pre-amp does some amplification and then it passes the signal along to the power amp, which will do the heavy lifting - driving the speakers.
The connection is usually through a shielded RCA plug cable. THere will be 2 cables from the Pre amp to the power amp - one for the left channel and one for the right channel.
The OUTPUT Of the power amp will connect to the speakers using large, stranded wire cables, sometimes with "banana" plugs that simply plug into the terminals on the power amp and the speaker.
Let me know if this gets your started.

How to check high power amps by using bulb series technic

You can use CFL (Compact Flourescent Lamps)
100W CFL is cooler and brighter than the standard 100w bulb. Therefore, for the same performance, a 60W CFL is equivalent to the
100W bulb.

Difference between audio amplifier & OPAMP

An audio amplifier is a general term that applies to any amplifier specifically designed to cover the audio spectrum, and usually referres to power amplifiers (of any power from micro headphone amps (like the headphone audio amplifier circuit in an ipod) . to power amps like the ones used at rock concerts that are several thousand watts).

An OP-AMP is an Operational Amplifier, which refers to a type of amplifier circuit. Op-Amps can amplify audio, but are not restricted to it. They are used in many things from audio circuitry to signal conditioning, and sensing from all kinds of equipment from seismometers, to light sensors, temp sensors, insturmentation amps, lab amps... RF amps etc...

There are many many different types of op-amps that are designed for many different applications. Mostly the parameters are frequency response, gain, and input/output impedance.

Op-amps usually come in an IC package of some sort. The most common are 8 pin DIP package types.

Op-amps do NOT handle power. (although there are some hybrid power op-amps available, they are specialty devices) The term op-amp refers to the ability of the amplifier to be manipulated mathematically by external values. (i.e. resistors set up to add, subtract, or multiply the value of the input signal) Hence the term OPERATIONAL amp, because it is performing mathematical operations on the signal. (They were first used in analog computers, allowing the voltages to be added, subtracted, and such, and displaying the resultt by directly reading the voltage value).

They handle only small signals, and require being followed by a POWER amp to do anything useful, such as drive a spleaker, or a relay, or a transducer.

For your question, most all audio amps consist of stages.

There is an input/pre-amp stage (this is usually where the eqalization, signal processing, and bass/trebel tone controls are implelented) and a power amp (output) stage that takes the signal fromthe pre-amp and raises the voltage and current to a sufficient level to drive speaker.

The input/pre-amp stage is most usually composed of a series of op-amps. Op amps also are responsible for the bass/trebel control, and the EQ.

There will most usually always be several Op-Amps in every Audio Amp.

I have recently purchased a arcam alpha 10 amp to go with my arcam alpha 9 cd player and my monitor audio rs8 speakers. I am pleased with the amp and i am thinking of adding the power amp, the problem is i...

A better solution is like I have mine; use the Arcam 10 connected to the tweeters of your speakers & the power Amp connected to the woofers & link the pre out's on the 10 to the power Amp. using phono cables. The Manual can be downloaded from Arcams discontinued section of their website.
This Bi-Amp method gives a far superior sound than just using the 10 as a pre Amp.

Pyle amp

Hi Steve

You can use the amp stand alone. The remote connection turns the power amp on and off. I would connect it to +ve12v via a switch on the control panel of the boat. Turn on the switch when you want to use the amp. Good luck and happy punting!
