Question about Onkyo TX-8511 Receiver

1 Answer

I just hooked up my old Onkyo TX-8511 receiver to my bose speakers, which is also hooked up to a subwolfer. When I turn the volume up the system goes into protect mode. Any solutions.

Just check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Rewire if necessary..
Are you using banana plugs for connecting speaker or just directly. Some times even a little tiny wire touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough and it could blown a few trasistors in the power circuit.

Otherwise, do your bose speakers play out load on other systems?

If everything else seems all right and still your receiver goes into protect mode when you raise the volume then it possible that there are bad connections on the main board that are set in by the heat.

This generally happen if the system is old and when you pump up the volume. This should be a simple repair that will not require parts. If you can solder, you will be able to repair this yourself. If not, then a local service center will change the local labor rate.

Check and replace the main digital board. It is faulty. In most cases main board replacement might be followed by a firmware update too. If you wish to get more details visit the site linked here.

THE SYSTEM IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY INTO THE RECEIVER THAN INTO THE MONITOR. AS FAR AS I KNOW IT IS NOT CONNECTED TO MY INTERNET.

one thing that you can do is turn on the auto login feature if the screen goes blank or the login session times out. I am not aware of any reason why the system would time out. The auto login setting will log you in in the event your screen goes blank.

I have a Rowe R80 jukebox and after moving it it has no sound through the speakers I am in New Zealand

Well, in addition to all the fine suggestions that are here, I would like to add the simple and easy things that may have happened during the move.

IF YOU ARE NOT GETTING A LOUD POP WHEN THE MACHINE IS POWERED ON.......

1) Make sure that the wires on the terminals below are still connected to the screws. There is one ground and one each for left and right. The lower the tap the lower the (max) volume of the jukebox. If they are not connected there will be no sound.

There is a jumpers on the terminal strip where the volume control connects. Make sure that these connections are correct and tight. Also make sure that the jumpers did not fall off.

If you are getting the loud pop in the speakers when the power is turned on .....

Check the plug on the side of the mechanism, just below the back of the tone are.(looks like a little tube socket) Check to see that it is connected to the mech and the CORRECT PLACE on the amplifier. It mat be possible to have this end in the wrong place. bf77613e-82a3-4e37-b8fe-cc80f4d4dbcb.jpg

Check all all your connections against the pic.

I hope this was helpful.
