Question about Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Broken switch on top loader

The gray colored switched fell off (it appears to be intact and not broken). Is it possible and or hard to put back on? It has one spring in the middle.
On a side note: The clothes are still in the washer and they have been sitting in water for more than a day. What should I do?

Will not drain

Is this a TOP LOADER? Or, a FRONT LOADER?

If this is the TOP LOADER, check your lid switch. This is the most common cause of the problem you are experiencing. Symptoms include, filling and stopping on the intial fill cycle, wash tub will not drain and/or the washer will still agitate in some cases, but will stop right after the wash cycle and fail to advance to rinse or spin cycles.

The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3557193-replacing_a_lid_switch

On some models, the lid switch is located under the top casing by one of the lid hinges. You will know if you if you have this type of switch, because It does not have a lid strike and the small hole on the right hand side of the wash tub will not be present. This switch is actuated (toggled) by a rod on the lid hinge. With this type of switch, if you locate it and it can be toggled by hand, you may only need to adjust the actuator by bending it slightly.

If this is a FRONT LOADER, check your drain pump reservoir. The access screws are on the bottom front edge of the lower toe panel directly below the door. You may need to prop up the two front feet of the washer to access them (a 2x4 works well for this). The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574284-checking_the_drain_pump_on_a_front_loade

It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced. If the pump requires replacement, the following link explains how:

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices differ between sites so shop and compare.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the washer lid - top loader, along the door opening - front loader) and let me know. These are very simple repairs that you can perform yourself. I hope this helps you.

Model 110.82873120 won't spin on spin cycle

Check to make sure your lid switch is functioning. On your washer, the lid switch is located on the right hand side under the washer casing. As you lift the lid and close it, you should hear the switch clicking. If not, the switch may be broken, it may have come loose and is not making contact with the lid actuator, or the actuator itself may be broken. You can view a drawing of your lid swtich at searspartsdirect.com. Just look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item 11. The actuator (item 12) is what actually makes contact with the switch and toggles the push button. Make sure it is intact.

If the switch toggles, a resistance check with the power removed will tell you if the switch is still good. You should get 0 ohms with the push button closed (switch pushed in) and an open with the switch open (switch out). I'm trying to rule out the possibility of a bad timer by having you check the switch and actuator first. This is usually the more common fail item on top loaders experiencing a no spin problem. If you need to access the switch, you will need to remove the exterior case, by performing the steps outlined in the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

Your configuration may differ slightly from these instructions, but the assembly/disassembly of the washer casing should be the same. If you have any questions, or if your symptoms differ from what I have described here, please let me know so that I may assist you better. I hope this helps you.

Lid switch assembly

go to www.searspartsdirect.com for a picture of this units lid switch.it doesnt show it very well, but it will give you an idea of how it goes back together.
what you need to do is put the lever around the switch first, then put the plastic box on the switch and arm. then carefully hold the assembly together and try to get it under the top and put the 2 screws back into the housing holes.
it sounds simple but i have done this before and its not easy. you just need to be careful to get the screws into the mounts correctly or it wont hold together to allow the switch to activate when the lid is closed.
by the way was there a reason you took the switch off??
maybe because it wont spin?
by the way this unit is not 30 years old, maybe 20 at the most.
the drive couplings are a weak spot for these and you may have a broken one. it wont spin or agitate but will drain if this is broken.
