Question about HP RADEON X300 SE, (128 MB) PCI Express Graphic Card

1 Answer

Can't identify graphics card

I have a sony vaio running 2005 version of XP multimedia. Seemed to have video card problems, having hard time identifying video card. Card has ASUS stamped on it, and number stamped on it is EAX300LE-A334C rev1.01 but computer identifies card as Nvidia Fx5200 when computer used to start up. What card do I have, and what would be a good replacement?

NVidia Fx5200 is the graphics chipset that your graphics card is built on. Many companies make graphics cards based on these various chipsets. Yours was apparently produced by ASUS.

As for a suitable replacement, that is hard to say without more information. What are the primary uses of the PC? Do you game? Watch movies/videos/tv on your PC? Simple internet/email/document editing? What type of slot is the current card plugged in to? Is it a AGP slot, a PCI or PCI-Express slot?

Give us some more details and we'll make a recommendation or two!

Sony Vaio VGN-A250 is a good choice.
  • Intel Pentium M 725 (1.6GHz, 2MB Cache)
  • 512MB PC2700 DDR Memory (2GB Maximum)
  • 80GB Hard Drive
  • 4x DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
  • 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) LCD and ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 with 64MB Memory
  • AC'97 Audio
  • v.90 56Kbps Modem, 10/100 Ethernet and 802.11b/g Wireless
  • Three USB 2.0, One FireWire, One Type II PC Card Slot and MS Slot
  • 14.8" x 10.9" x 1.8" @ 7.3 lbs.

Vaio graphics card upgrade

First off, it needs to be a desktop. Make sure the Motherboard has a PCI-e slot, and that the card is seated properly. Also make sure that you screw in the metal tab in properly or the card could come loose.
