Thanks for your suggestion, it was the evaporator coil, it was packed with ice. I unplugged the fridge, removed the coil cover on the freezer side, took my blow dryer, (I read where someone else did that) melted the ice, freezer and fridge works fine now. Thanks for your help. Now I don't have to pay a repair man.

Thanks bobby, did you know that there is now a recall on these fridge's, Maytag MZ (a list of models), get your model number and serial number handy, recall for side by side models only. 866-231-1478, get ready to be on hold for a long time. Did you replace the timer yourself? if so was it hard?

same problem. forst buildup kept fridge from getting cold. tried bridging l1 and test on ADC board with screwdriver but could not get a manual defrost to start. ohm'd thermostat and heater ok so assuming its the ADC board.

  • Ice-less Mar 24, 2009

Neither freezer or refrigerator is cooling properly. Ice maker not making ice. I pulled away from the wall and immediately noticed the electrical connection to the fan motor was disconnected. I plugged it in and the fan began blowing. I had assumed that the problem was solved, although this morning the 'frozen' foods were less frozen than last night.

    Any ideas?

Any suggestions on what I should replace?  I have read about "timer for the automatic defrost" going out.   I also experianced the weird noise coming from the cool side then after about a month the refeidg side would not get cold...54 degrees was about all it will do.
    Any ideas?

Your timer for the automatic defrost is defective. Replace it. If you thawed out the back of the freezer, this could be good for 3-7 days and it will freeze up again. I had the same trouble.

I had it replaced by some idiot around our house and it didn't work. I ordered me one on line and when it came in, I replaced it and found out that the first one wasn't plugged in properly. I went ahead and plugged it in properly and it's been working ever since. It's real easy to replace. It's in the refer side at the very top behind that plastic housing where the light is. It just pops out and I think there are a couple of screws holding it somehow.

Maytag people will tell you part number for the defroster timer and you go on line or e-bay and find one cheap.

Thanks for the info about the recall.

Freezer cabinet evaporator coil frozen preventing airflow and therefore cooling to happen. This can be because of the fanmotor not working, or the defrost system being faulty

Just be careful, you may have just delayed the problem. Still make sure that the fanmotor is working and secondly, that it is defrosting properly. If the fanmotor is working and it ices up again in a short period you can safely say that the defrost system needs attention

Maytag performa fridge model# ptb1753grw freezer freezing up and the fridge not getting cool. i defrost freezer remove the ice then the bottom fridge gets cold again. but it keeps freezing up again.

You have one or more of your defrost components that are bad. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat, and defrost timer or board depending on model are the 3 components.

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

Hello, Problem with Maytag plus Side by Side refrigerator model MZD2766GE.The Freezer part is working fine but the fridge part is not cold at all even after I adjusted the temperature to number 8. I do not...

You most likely have a defrost heater and/or defrost term switch. (switch is built into heater on your fridge).that needs replaced causing your coil to completely freeze up and blocking cool air flow to fridge side. Here is the part you need to order.

Thanks, Randy

Freezer works fine on my Maytag side-by-side refrigerator, but refrigerator is not cold enough, there is is ice accumulated inside the vent between the freezer and the frig., specially on humid days.

Defrost your fridge with a blowdryer in the freezer after you remove the freezer back panel. Get the ice out of your exhaust pipe going to fridge. Your evaporator fan should be running, either your defrost heater is bad or your defrost thermostat is bad. I ussually replace both. Good luck rate me if I am correct.

I have a side by side refrigerataor. The refrigerator side is not cold enough. It is a Maytag model MZD2766GE.

the most common problem is restricted or no air flow from the freezer compartment.
when the unit is in the cooling mode then open the freezer door and listen for the evaporator fan if it not running then you need to replace it.
If you here it running look for and excess ice build up on the back wall the evaporator may be frozen over indicating a defrost issue. the thermastat control for the fridge side only may need to be change or the defrost timer or sensor may need to be can use a blow dryer and defrost the freezer compartment thourghly and see if the fridge gets may also need to check the damper motor in the fridge to see if it is opening or closing properly.this is usually located in the top left side of the fridge and the way to check it is to turn the unit off then back on and listen for the motor to open or close the damper.

Maytag Widey Side not cooling enough

Check to see if you have frost on the back panel of your freezer in your fridge. If you do your coil is frozen over and you'll have to defrost your freezer. I just did mine cause mine wasn't cooling properly on my fridge side. If it is that it's going to fill the pan under your fridge and overflow.

Coil freeze up.

sounds like you have a problem with the defrost timer. usually they are at the back on the bottom of the fridge and have a little nob that is supposed to turn as a clock.

mark it and come back later to see if the timer moves, if not then there is your problem

Maytag fridge

Without knowing the type of fridge(side by side, freezer on top etc.) all I can offer is this: Somewhere between the freezer and the fridge there's an opening thermostatically controlled to transfer cold air from freezer to the fridge. Most have a fan to move the air. So either the fan (if so equipped) stopped, and need to replace, or opening is stuck closed, or plugged.
If freezer is working fine, this is the only problem I can think of.
Hope this helps
