If you're running Vista that's normal.

Here’s a quick procedure that helps speed windows vista startup:

  • Click the Windows Start button
  • Right click Computer
  • Click Properties
  • Click Advanced System settings
  • In the Advanced Tab, Start and Recovery, click Settings
  • In the Time to display operating systems list setting, set a 5 second value instead of 30.
  • Click Apply
Now, Reboot your PC. You’ll notice a boost in the performance of the startup process.

How can i increase shut down speed of x44h laptop

Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when you initiate.

You can also use a 3rd party application like TuneUp Utilities.

My hp2000xp takes forever to start up. I defrag and clean discs like I am supposed to but that doesn't help. It just hangs up and some times I have to shut it down and start over.

Check the Startup folder in the star menu, and use the msconfig utility to check what all programs are being started upon booting. Uninstalling or disabling some might help.
