Kenmore refrigerator 253.57192600 making clicking noise

I have a Kenmore refrigerator model 253.57192600. It started making a clicking noise. The noise appears to be coming from the small compartment that is located inside the refrigerator at the top. There is a small compartment located on the wall that is shared with the freezer. the compartment is at the top of the refrigerator. I read an article that commented that the noise was caused due to the starter. Call it what you want, start relay, starter whatever. The starter is at the bottom located at the back of the refrigerator. I replaced it. The noise was not coming from that area but the advise was to replace the starter. Well the noise is still happening. It is still coming from inside the refrigerator at the top. Any suggestions as to what this clicking noise is? Things are still cold. The refrigerator and freezer are still working. The noise is annoying and I hope that someone can instruct me as to what I can do (other then buying a new refrigerator) to end this clicking noise.

It could be as simple as a bit of expansion and contraction of the wall panels or the damper which allows cooling to flow from the freezer to the fridge side.

The only other thing would be a noisy relay, which is still working (you say the fridge is working) but noisy. This would mean replacing the pc board (behind the lights at top of fridge) which is quite simple. A matter of a couple of screws and unplugging a few wires.

There is a coil called the condenser located on the bottom of the refrigerator, that may be plugged with dirt and or animal hair. Check and clean this coil and see if this solves your problem.

SOUNDS LIKE THE COMPRESSOR IS NOT STARTING IF THE NOISE IS FROM THE BACK MAKE SURE THE FAN BY THE COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING IF THE COMPRESSOR IS CLICKING ON AND OFF THATS NOT A GOOD THING.

You need to clean your coils under the 'fridge,' and wait 24 hours, if it is not not getting cold, perhaps replace the freon. If that does not work, you need to call a repairman.

DONT SAY THAT COMPRESSORS BAD YET !!!! TECHCUMSE AND COPELAND ALL HAVE THE SAME COMPONENTS FOR STARTING THE COMPRESSOR. ALL COMPRESSORS HAVE EITHER A "PIN-TYPE PLUG-IN START RELAY, OR CAPACITOR START ASSIST RELAY" TO GET THE COMPESSOR TURNING.( FROST-FREE REFRIGERATORS ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE A START-CAPACITOR, RELAY, AND T-STAT COMBO ON ALL MAKES. THE IN LINE BI-METAL TYPE T-STAT THAT PREVENTS THE COMPRESSOR FRON OVER HEATING... THEY CAN GO WEAK. THIS IS THE "CLICKING SOUND YOU ARE HEARING !!! CALL A REPUTABLE DEALER THAT IS "FACTORY CERTIFIED" FOR YOUR MAKE AND MODEL AND GET A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHECK PERFORMED. NEVER LET A REPAIRMAN TAKE DEFECTIVE PARTS OUT OF YOUR HOUSE FOR ANY REASON. BY LAW THEY HAVE TO LET YOU KEEP THEM UNLESS THEY ARE REPLACING THEM COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR EXCHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS ARE "BILKED" BY THE " DOI-IT-ALL REPAIR-MAN. MOST MANUFACTURES ONLY HAVE 1 YEAR ON COMPRESSORS FOR REFRIGERATORS 5-10 YEARS ON A/C COMP. DONT BE AFFRAID TO WATCH AND ASK QUESTIONS TO REPAIRMEN YOU LET "INTO YOUR HOME".
