Question about Troy Bilt 5.5hp Self Propelled Mower

1 Answer

I haven't used my s/b in 2 yrs. because it hasn't snowed. I completely ran the gas dry. Now it has snowed and it won't start. I changed the plug, put fresh gas in, took the bowl off and freed the float. I'm gettin spark, I'm getting gas to the bowl, but the top of the cylinder should be wet and it's not. I took a paper clip and stuck it in the small hole and it still won't start. I've put gas into the cylinder replaced the spark plug and it starts but it's not getting gas to keep it running. What am I missing? Tom Stawniak

Hi, You are still not fuel through the carb. Pull your mains screw and your idle/mix screws and spray in some carb cleaner and blow them (seats) out with compressed air and try it again. Note the turns in and then then back them out so you will know the settings to put them back. Good Luck to you, this should Fixya!

the converter is what is restricting power from engine. causes of a bad converter are: decreased engine power, indicated by low rpms on the tach. hesitating or bucking during acceleration, the car will loose power going up a hill. if engine runs hotter then usual and coolant is up to par, it may indicate a bad converter. also black smoke from tail pipe is another indication of a bad converter. good- day!!
