First thing is to check if the video card is OK.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop, if you get a clear image on this monitor then the video card in the laptop is OK.
A faulty backlight could be caused by a defective inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or a faulty CCFL lamp. Most likely a faulty CCFL lamp.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
