    Hello,
Thank you for the information. I am absolutely certain that the problem is the CCFL lamp. I know about the site www.lcdparts.net - I went there to order a replacement, but I need to know the specific details of the CCFL lamp, i.e. dimensions, type, etc. Without them I cannot make the order. Can you please send me these? Thanks immensely.

First thing is to check if the video card is OK.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop, if you get a clear image on this monitor then the video card in the laptop is OK.
A faulty backlight could be caused by a defective inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or a faulty CCFL lamp. Most likely a faulty CCFL lamp.

The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
Check out www.lcdparts.net for parts, repair service and DIY info.

The length of the CCFL lamp is measured from the left hand edge to the right hand edge of the screen.

You can go to LCD Parts page - Selecting CCFL page where you can also select the CCFL lamp by the laptop manufacturer and model.

Backlight not working...........when I first boot up the pc the display will flas on for a second

Hello.

Test with an external monitor and if it works, works, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.
If you were experiencing discoloration in the screen (pinkish lower light hues) before it failed, that would indicate a CCFL backlight issue. If the screen suddenly went dim rather than a slow degradation, the inverter would be indicated.

In either case, a technician in your area should be able to help. Evaluate to see if the repair is cost-effective.

Hope this helps.

Connect an external monitor / display to your laptop to see if your laptop's display is faulty.

If faulty, it is the display's backlight or inverter board.

LCD backlight not working

Hi.....It would appear your backlight has "blown" (it is just a thin, long bulb in the bottom of your screen)....It will need replacing ....Although you could purchase one yourself to fit it would be best to leave this job to a service engineer

Hope this helps
